Painting 91 SN SJ Epoxy Filler + Epoxy Primer + Paint

Hello everyone!

I'm about to prime and paint my 91 SN SJ, (hull for now)

had tom's tubbies installed with 5200 and screws at first than glassed over with couple coats, took the screws out and 5200 the wholes. will post pictures:


I would like to know the best way to sand all down to get ready for prime and paint but not spend 3 days sanding!, as well best place to buy epoxy primer and best spray can paint available on the shelf in Toronto, Canada ???

after not getting any reply on here,
I decided to pick up the following suff from Noah's.

Epifanes Epoxy Primer
Quick Fair fairing patty

the primer is brush or roll on type, and dries in 4 hours.
not sure if I'll be needing that fairing patty, unless that primer will not seal/cover all the small holes and scaffs.

I dont feel like sanding all this stuff :doh:
any adeas how to skeep some of it ??
especially the thicker layers of fiberglass i applied.

wait a minute. You are wasting primer to use any now. Sorry, but you have hours and itchy hours of sanding and filling and sanding in your future. You're just going to have to do the work if you want it to look better than what a 5 year old could do. Start with a rough grit paper for most of your sanding. Something in the neighborhood of 60-80 grit will work. Sand until you think you have ALL the high spots down and then use a solvent to clean it all up before using any filler. I've never seen the filler you have there, but it might work. You'll then have to sand again and probably do another round or two of filler. Follow all that up by stepping up in grit until you get to 200 or so. Here's the best piece of advice I can give: IF YOU CAN FEEL IT, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE IT. Any imperfection that you can feel while running your hands over the ski will clearly show up after paint. Do it right or do it twice....

thats exctly what i'm doing at this stage, going over everything with 80 grit...

didnt have time or interest to sand it down, have a buddy doing automotive body work, i left it there, should be done by monday, will epoxy prime a couple layers, then paint.

now, i've seen many threads about paint, what is the best paint to use for our application considering that i'm using epoxy based primer ??

decided to take stock vinyl off and put this graphics kit, not overpriced and looks kinda decent?

what do you guys think, should i do the rails in black or grey diamond turf?
i got sheets in both colors so I want to mix in between rails - pad - tray - FFH - fuel/choke board

what combinations you think will look nice ??

i already have it, been sitting here waiting to apply,
did you had one of this on yours ??

you think what they advertise on there skies are not the same quality prints they send out to customers??

they advertise and claim to have HIGH QUALITY 3M VINYL & HIGH QUALITY PHOTO DEFINITION

Why do you think you need a roll-on epoxy primer? That stuff is almost as hard to sand out as the epoxy resin.

In the same day you posted that it was at you buddies auto body shop and he'd be all done painting it soon......and that you'd alread bought & recieved a vinyl kit. It's kinda hard to follow what's going on.

No reason to use the primer at all if you'r using the vinyl. But it still needs to be prepped (sanded down smooth) to painting standards.

its pretty simple

my buddy is doing the prep work at body shop right now.
everyone on here will confirm to use Epoxy Based Primer!
this way the paint sticks to the primer much better, and primer to figerglass!
but i could only find brush on type instead of air-spray, so here i am using that.
and i'm sure if you apply thin coats, sanding out is not that bad?

that vinyl kit i got from ebay is here waiting for everything else to finish so i can apply

P.S.
I'm painting only the hull, bottom of the ski!
the top is getting just new vinyl kit since the gelcoat is pretty nice still...

everything looking nice, will update in couple of days with pictures and details, but so far can tell you that product i have found is amazing and can do really nice job! and even easier job if you know few details to not waste time!
