Other Painting Decals

so i just saw this picture on the thread "2013 Krash Industries Footrocket" and always found this interesting. i have no idea how people paint the decal in the background of the paint job, that are multicolored. if you look the decal it goes from the blue to the black. so if anybody with painting experience knows how to do those please could you lead me in the right direction on how to do this or give me instructions??

oh ok. hmm ok ya i have a bell helmet that is sprayed but it has volcom signs that are faded in the background like the ski but on my helmet they are painted. i figured they were the same thing. thanks!

yea.. it's all vinyl.. ski could be painted whatever color you wanted but you don't see any paint... just printed vinyl.. this is very possible to do with paint though... just a lot of masking...

I do Wraps for a living. Id have to think they cleared over that or something. You'd get 5 years max on a normal trailer with premium vinyl let alone something taking abuse. I've been searching around for someone to ask if they did or not

I own a body shop and I've never seen any vinyl hold clear very long... there's just nothing bite to, just seems like every time it gets scratched it just starts to peal.. not saying they didn't clear it, just stating I've never seen clear over vinyl last very long.. I guess I'd rather spend the time on a good paint job rather than use vinyl, and I've got a cutter.. haha

Most companies clear coat over wraps, but I also heard some guys have a clear plastic wrap or the whole thing to seal the laps and keep it tite and make it purty.

clear vinyl over it would be better... there's a reason auto makers are using it on lower wheel wells and front of hood to keep from chipping the clear..

Thats what I meant clear vinyl. I started painting cars in the 80's and have been installing die cut vinyl for the past 15 years.

cheaper than good clear coat also.. I'm not sure what thickness like GM uses for chip protection but the stuff is awesome, until you have to remove it...
