Just for the record I am wondering as the seller... I was wondering how long I should honor dibs lol

the second you wonder how long your should honor dibs is the second you should stop honoring it. There should be a race for stuffing money into your paypal. who ever gets there first wins.

24 hours to make or send payment. At 24:01, you're done. Next in line!

The way I look at it is if you don't have your stuff together in that amount of time, you're going to need a lot more than that anyway and I'm not that patient. You post on it, you better have the funds available then. Not in 3 days, not come Christmas, and not when you get off your lazy ass and file your income taxes. (sorry. I hear that every day this time of year)

I send a pm aslinf if they're still interested and give a time frame of when it's gettin relisted. If I see the user has bean online and hasn't responded..... Next....

I think it really depends on the seller, some sellers on here make it a "business" and others do it just to recoup costs of an upgrade or a build they are working on... I ride for enjoyment not for profit.

I've ran into "business" sellers on here who deliver based on who can pay the quickest. They'll post a $50 part that normally costs like $90 and not tell anyone they have like 10 available. People start hitting up the thread with "i want it" or "dibs" but it doesn't matter... the first 10 people that pay win... The next day the original thread may get bumped with "2 left" and that's how you'll know if they had multiple in stock... In my experience, some of the "business" sellers don't even seem to care if you are a repeat customer or just dropped like $1000 with them in the past 2 months and ask for "dibs" on a part. The money talks. I learned my lesson and a seller lost a repeat customer by using this method. Doesn't mean they are a bad seller and I'm gonna write up a negative feedback on them, I just prefer not to buy from people that run a business that way...

I've only sold a couple things on here, but I would try to honor some one claims "dibs" on an item. At lease give them 24 hours. What if your just browsing the site with your smartphone (like i do) and see that part you've been waiting for come up for sale at a price your willing to pay? You may not have gotten the best look at the pics or have questions about the item but you know you need it for your build. I bet a lot of people on here can sympathize with that from being in the same position. Look at how many build threads there are.

I've been buying parts all winter long for my build from tons of different people on here. The first thing I search for is "part-out" because non-business sellers seem to honor the whole "dibs" scenario and generally have the better deal. Not trying to bash the "business" sellers on here either because there are some good ones that have saved me when I have been in a bind. I personally have been to trusting with everyone and will check the buyer/seller feedback section more thoroughly for now on.

I made a suggestion on that other thread about McDog's engine thread ( about selling ethics) to create a "trusted sellers" or "featured sellers" thread with a list of the most reputable sellers from here and put a 5 star rating system next their name so members can do that if they want. It fell on deaf ears I guess...

sorry for the long response just wanted to lay my experience out there...

uh what pisses me off is when its listed, I put dibs so others know I am pming right effin now! for some reason the other person never responds to dibs and when I keep at trying to make contact usually the next day I get the "oh I sold it to someone else" HOW!!!!! I was the first to reply and I was trying to pm. if you had other offers offline why even bother to list it? some shady douchebaggery is afoot.

I think Dibs should be Honored given the buyer is proactive and has already engaged the seller in some other form of communication. We are not 4 years old and our word should count for something, at least between Honorable men.
In a Guns forum I frequent the first "I'll take it" gets always honored......that should tell you something ;-)

I never understood dibs. Send a pm to the seller with an offer or asking for a paypal address to pay the full amount. When the seller reads his pm's, let him decide who he wants to sell to based on offers and simplicity. If one guy contacts me and wants pictures and needs it shipped via a specific shipping service, he's most likely going to get bumped off the top of my list for the guy who is ready to pay and doesn't care who I use to ship it. If that's offensive to someone, maybe they need to stick with buying only new parts.

if you call dibs you shouldn't have any questions except how do i pay. why should a seller pass up a sale because you think you might want it?
