@powerhouseperformance and
@egbrig
Thanks both for the advice and chiming in! I'm on board and totally agree with sourcing the right parts and right help, but we all have a budget. I'm more of a scrape up what I can at a good deal kinda guy. I'm happy with 80-90% of the power when I get it at 50% of the price. Not for everyone, but that's my style and what I enjoy.
@egbrig
I didn't read it in any negative tone, I appreciate you chiming in and the honest advice. I bought one of your TPE 1105s in the past as well and love the "package" mentality along with the information you shared.
@powerhouseperformance
For no actual reason, I've never looked into PHP motors of packages. Actually one reason maybe... I read the forms a lot and simply don't see much info on the PHP motors. Most of the tuning talk is on the DASA/TPEs. I usually buy used parts and try hard not to bother the builders I haven't paid a dime to. I took this PHP 1015 in on a trade from a friend. Kinda the reason I started this thread. Helps me, and maybe helps the next guy or gal that wants to buy a PHP new or used.
For now I plan to use these parts.
Exhaust Pipe
I already own a good complete RRP pipe. I plan to keep it and run it with the PHP1015. I understand the PFP is better for your package. However before I buy a PFP and sell my RRP, I'd like to see what I can do with the power it makes.
The rrp signs off a decent amount on top vs a PF when we tested back to back. I have a couple of water jet changes that helped that some but still couldn't match the PF. Not probably what you wanted to hear unfortunately.
Carbs
I own next to new Full Spec 48s. In this case tho I opted to buy my buddies Novi 48s he had on the PHP 1015. As you say, sure the FS will work, but I hope I can get there faster on the Novis since you've spent more time with them.
We've used some full specs before. If I was blindfolded I might not be able to tell you the difference between novis. I'm a lot more comfortable giving jetting advice on novis and believe they are easier to tune. If the full specs are dialed in, nothing to gain with novis.
Intake/Reeds
I have a Boyesen manifold and new reeds as well. However, I opted to spend some new money since I had a friend who needs the boyseen package. I bought a new PHP manifold and new Vforce 3 reeds from Jetmaniac. I may have to reconsider and call you to see what I need to do here.
If you have the non widened cases just stay with the v3's. It's a good setup unless it's absolutely all out.
Ignition
I'd like to keep my stock setup this year and consider TL in the future. I have a MSD Enhancer and TBM lightweight flywheel. This is an all around ski for surf, boat chasing, and last of all flat water. I may even deiced to play with the new Zeeltronics TL CDI people have been testing before going MSD TL.
Great idea on the Zeel. That's why we went to selling them and ditched the enhancer. The bigger the piston diameter the more advance they need for performance. An enhancer on the gun is about 23 initial...23 sucks. The right ignition curve is a huge bang for the buck.
Pump
I have a new 155 OEM 8 vein pump they put in the Yamaha couches, its machined on the outside to fit in a stand up. No ability to change tail cone sizes. Thrust trim and nozzles on ski currently (smaller motor in it now). Switching to a full RRP nozzle and trim setup when I put the 1015 in the hull. (I wanted to try something new)
We've done a good amount of tuning using a stock 155 to keep build costs down. Props need to be bent a believe it or not...less pitch than a comparable mag setup. We can point you the right way
Prop
I don't have anything yet.
Exit Nozzle
I have a RRP flowguard to add to the pump. I don't know what diameter RRP exit or turn nozzle.
