“Performance isn't a gamble when you bet on the house “ unless we are talking about the PHP customer service. www.phpski.com
As many of your know I have hired Zack Genrich Powerhouse Performance skis to built a lot of motors/ complete skis and a few builds for many years. This era has sadly come to an end. I have spent more than 30k (prolly almost 40k) at Zacks shop over the years, he used to ride at my lake house as well.
Here is my honest review of the service I received from Zack ( Keep in mind, I have text messages to back a lot of this up, 14 pages )
Many hours were spent in the tiny 15x25 shop where Zack runs PHP at his personal home, listening to his reviews and bashing of other motor/ hull builders. This is where my loss for the PHP brand started. I was told this motor was junk, this hull was junk, only for Zack to purchase these same items in the near future.
This is where the working relationship went south.....
I had a KDX build that nothing was not completed on for over 6 months by Zack. I called to pull the pin on the build because it was riding season. I was told, “ It is, what it is, bro.” I was promised by Zack, in front of 3 fellow riders ( Tommy, Trevor, Randy), that in less than a month he would have it completed. Don't worry it will be done, Zack proudly said. 1 month passed...... My TL was installed in my hull, that was it. Nothing else but a pile of parts and a unfinished ski. I pulled the pin on the build, bought my DVX. Had Zack swap the Dasa for my PHP. Zack then tuned my DVX, told I could go a touch lower (like a half degree on my 7/18 prop). Keep in mind this a prop that Zack ordered for my ski. Turns out a year later I need a 7/15. Thanks Zack for the heads up. This is when I started messing with the prop. I think Zack may enjoy people relying on him for tuning, compared to teaching them. This is when the nasty texts from Zack started in summer of 2015. ( dont worry Zack, I saved them ) @powerhouseperformance
All of us local riders have struggled with tuned skis for years. The sad part is, I followed all Zack's recommendations to a T. That is the biggest downfall with the PHP motor unless you follow everything perfect to Zack's specs on his personal ski, you will usually chase your tail. Every time Trevor rode at my house, he was tuning on his motor, If the the ski was even running. Keep in mind trevor works in the shop, hand in hand with Zack. This is the last person that should have tuning issues on a ski. Maybe Zack can work on a few other set of specs for people that don't have super deep pockets. Someone may want a PHP on enhancer on 44s or 46s, not a full jones build.
Here is what I have noticed over the years dealing with “Zack show”. Your phone will ring off the hook, when you are spending money and buying parts. Stop spending money, phone stops ringing. This is not how this sport should be with your riding buddies. Many other local riders have experienced this same sour deal, but are afraid to speak up. When it comes to hanging with Zack, he is the last rider to show up and the first to leave. Everyone should stop riding to help him load /unload. This is why I don't invite him out to my house any more. ( even tho he texts friends to invite himself out to my house) (or attempts to borrow my shop for a bachelor party for Trevor that I wasn't even invited to, lol) Just a lil back story on how he operates on a personal level....
I was a fan boy along with a few other local riders for many years. As you noticed the posts supporting PHP by me and other locals have stopped. I do expect many fan boys of PHP to chime in ( just as I would have in the past). This is not a complete bash thread on PHP, Zack builds a great motor, has tons of knowledge/ creativity in the sport, but his business model really lacks in the customer service portion. I do hope he is able to correct these issues and continue to run a successful business that helps the customers and sport. I hope Zack uses this thread as a constructive thread to help correct the issues at hand, I'm sure there are more people with similar stories.
