Matakana Menace
Sorry rickster I was just "kidding". I Just got my 91 SN two weeks ago. After doing much reaserch before I bought it I dont understand why people are obssed with the RN. Same hull from 90-07. The SN look is growing on me and that RRP pole looks nasty on it...HMMM

Will

Hey Will,

Having both a RN and a SN set up identically, I do spend 95% of my ride time on the RN! The RN is a lot lighter than the SN, especially above the waterline, and just handles better...

The skis are set up exactly the same, except different sponsons, so they are a good comparison of rides.

Im coming off a SXI 750. I love the SN. I only have a couple rides on it. It is all stock. Only things I dont like is no quick steer and its underpowere. I am planning on doing a bunch of stuff to the SN and then eventually putting the stuff over to a A/M hull. Ill have to ride a RN before I start talking :):):):). I heard some people like the SN because of the lower pole??

without a doubt the lines of the RRP match very well with the SN.. i just hope my RRP matches with my RN that nice..

Hey guys.... I just purchased a SN with a 760 powerplant, Factory Pipe and a Solas 13 / 17 prop which was built by Jack Lehocky... As a matter of fact it is being built as we speak... I believe regardless of SN versus RN and know matter how much or little money you invest in either ski.... If you decide that you want to invest near $ 1,300.00 for an RRP pole on your SN then so be it.... I actually prefer the looks of the SN better versus the RN, but, that is simply my opinion... I think the RRP looks killer on the SN and both SN / RN are sick looking in their own aspects... My personal opinion is that say you have $ 6K invested in your SN or maybe even a little more it is still far less then sporting $ 15K or higher for some of the other models that will still basically be doing the same things the less expensive skis will do if you are a hobby rider and not looking to compete... Like I had mentioned... I like the old school look.... If my SN will have say $ 6K or higher invested and it is my toy and I have no interests in selling no matter what... Then sport the RRP and let er rip !!! Tommy

what kind of hacking needs to be done to install the xmetal bracket on an SN? any reinforcing need to be done? Im assuming the hood hooks have to be moved. pics would be awesome

Old, but still ridin'!!!
I've got an XMetal non-adjustable -5 on my SN with a XMetal bracket. No hacking necessary. Move the hood hooks to the outside of the bracket and then move the hood hooks out to match. I didn't use the standard backing plate though. I bought a piece of 1/8" aluminum and made a larger backing plate to cover basically the whole bracket area. Also added 2 layers of 17ox Biax for extra reinforcement. If I remember, I'll take pics this weekend and post em. IMO, one of the tricks to using a RN bracket on a SN is to get the hood hooks out as far as possible to give the hood more strength and keep it secure. Over-rotated a BR in Pismo last year, busted the hood latch completely, but with the hood hooks out and my hood straps, I never lost the hood.

pre '08 rn pole on sn, modified original sn bracket, clearanced rn pole lower end, relocated front hood retaining clips, custom spring and spring mount to place pole about 6" up when at rest, see last photo, seriously gives sensation of the pole being close to weightless)IMG_1965.JPG IMG_2359.JPGIMG_1972.JPG IMG_7445.JPG IMG_1973.JPG photo of old school set trim graphic on new at the time beaver, magenta piping, ergo foam kick tail, front tray hump, ribbed mat, ***no reverence to pole post, but had to pay homage to the late great Gary Hart every time i post a photo of this ski.
