Pipes??

Maybe this is a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways, pipe prices seem really expensive nowadays is anybody doing something different? I have been out of the sport since like 2011 or so and if I remember correctly coffman pipes were like 300 bucks and b-pipes were not 1200 bucks. You read alot about people saying just buy a b-pipe but at 1200 bucks or whatever people are selling them for maybe there are other options to look into? Has anybody figured out something to do with the stock exhaust? Or is there an option that is closer to the 500 dollar range? The wet jet pipe is attractive being that it just takes a bit of welding and grinding.

Anyways just was curious , i got my 650 sn for 900 bucks right now spending over 1000 on a pipe does not seem smart.

Thanks,

It'd be cheaper and more of a benefit for you to put a 701 in there....then eventually down the road get a pipe.
That is my first goal and i know that will be more benefit than a pipe at this point but i am very curious about pipes currently and if people are thinking like i am that they are a bit out of hand on price and maybe there are some other options.

Oh, yeah, the price of used B Pipes is freaking ridiculous. People are making their 'friends' bend over and they aren't even using lube. It's disgusting. Better off placing an order for a new one so you won't get one beat to shonet with a hammer and with frozen screws that won't turn.

I think i would like to look more into this wetjet pipe. I saw one a bit ago on ebay for 200 bucks and i have access to somebody who welds aluminum to turn it so i feel this is a good option at least to try.

Look at 1993 prices and factor inflation. A new Factory pipe would be around $1000 now. No standup pipe has been made in quantity in 25 years. The days of finding 5 yr old skis equipped with all the goodies for $1500 are long gone. All old skis are past their expiration date, they need to be overhauled before you even think about making more power. There is little you can do to a stock Superjet exhaust since it doesn't provide much tuning.

I get this completely get it and a brand new b-pipe for 1000 is not bad. My love is the moto and those exhausts are more than that. But you can also buy a full used exhaust for your 1999 yz 250 for 150 bucks also. I do think the clapped out used b pipes for 1200 is a bit extreme but people are buying them so you cant blame the sellers.

My main goal of this thread is not to complain and discuss pipe prices but to see what other options are maybe out there. Maybe nothing is out there but figured i would ask.

cheater pipe. Buy a wax manifold and a kawa 650sx exhaust and dry mod it. "Cheater pipe".

Be lucky you got the SN for 900. Most are 2-4
Thats probably doable for close to 500 i would guess.
a square nose with a b pipe will sell for at least 2500-3500 depending location. That’s something else to consider

Its a good time to be older and have a lot of junk skis and parts laying around. KIds now are lining up to pay out of sight prices. This is nothing compared to the recent Porsche 911 insanity.

Good writeup on the cheater pipe:

Thanks guys. Kinda looking at some of the junk that’s out there best bang for your buck honestly is just order and wait for a new b-pipe.

I’m sure I will look into the cheater pipe tho. If I could get a real cheap 650sx pipe and buy that manifold I could be in business.

I've always thought a type 4 running wet would probably be a sweet setup in a superjet, or even a type 9 running wet (basically same as wet pfp no?)

But have not personally tried those so can't recommend it as I have no idea if they actually work.

I have used a wet jet pipe and it seems like the all time bargain of superjet pipes to me if you have the resources to do the cutting and welding. Big and heavy, which is a downside, but definitely a solid improvement over stock power and dirty cheap I've seen them go for 1-200 dollars even in Covid era.

I have pretty much decided that next year I only wrench on my own stuff, without putting forth a monumental effort I could see building and selling 25 skis next year without having to buy any more skis.
