Other Pissing the neighbors off story...

So Laborday weekend I had a run in with a guy who was not happy about my TDR waterbox and hopped up noisy jetski.... So heres my story that I will share...

But heres a quick rundown of my backround in my area that this all took place.

1) We are right on Lake Erie (Big lake)
2) I know all my neighbors from one end of the beach to the other. Or atleast put a face to a location with saying hi all the time.
3) the locals all know me or talk to me all the time about jetskiing
4) I get to jetski up at my cottage one or 2 times a week MAX all summer.
5) we have owned our house on the lake for over 60 years.
6)we are 7 houses away from the boat launch

Well here goes....

Saturday September 3rd 2011 at approx 7:45PM.....

Well it is Saturday, I rode 1/4 tank early in the afternoon. We are having a family party and a few of the cousins decide to take a dip in the lake after dinner. I said to myself, well if everyone is taking a dip, the water is SUPER calm, Ill go for a 15 min rip before it gets to dark.
I take out the ski, Im about 1/4 mile from shore doing set up wake after set up wake. 15-20 min later I realized I hate flatwater, wish I had surf, and came in.
As I am coming into shore, there is a man, in his mid 50s standing next to my jetski rack where I park... And now the real story begins
I am coming in thinking this guy is going to say thats awesome, love jetskis, I remember when.... blah blah blah...
but I came in to....

Me: Hows it going today?
Guy: Well I could be better.... Can I have a word with you?
Me: Sure thing, Whats going on?
Guy: (tone of voice changed dramatic) DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN OUT THERE!?!?!
Me: Ughh, 15.... maybe 20 minutes?
Guy: NO, You have been out there going in circles making alot of noise for atleast an hour
Me: Sir, It has only been about 20 min max, i did a few set up wakes and came in,
Guy: Well this is a serious problem, Do you know what its like to eat dinner with your family and hear brap brap brap brap brap brap all day and all night?
Me: Well what do you want me to do sir?
Guy: Id appreciate it if you wouldnt jetski and cause all this noise pollution. You are polluting our air with that crap. I have kids trying to sleep
Me: I thought you were enjoying a family dinner (getting cocky)
Guy: well its past the dinner hour and I still hear that thing in our yard I Dont think you should be allowed to cause all this noise
Me: Where do you live, Ive never seen you before
Guy: That does not matter
Me: Yes it does, Ill stay away from your house. But i wont stop jetskiing, It is the last weekend of summer, not to mention its labor day weekend.
Guy: Where I live is irrelevent. Well You need to stop jetskiing after 6pm or I will be calling the police. Also I only expect you to be out on the water between 4 and 6pm
Me: No it is ing relevant, Where the hell do you live. I have never seen your face. You will have to tell all boaters to get out of the water at 6 then.
Guy: down there (pointing at the boat launch).
Me: YOUR GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT NOISE WHEN YOU LIVE NEAR THE BOAT DOCK?! Wait Do you even have beach front property
Guy : This is supposed to be a quite place, and yes I do .
Me: Where?! I know everyone down the beach that way.... so whats the address buddy?
Guy: That does not matter
Me: Yes it does, Ill stay the hell away.
Guy: Id like it if you wouldnt use that thing anymore.
Me: Are you kidding me?! Its the summer. i work my ass off over 50 hours a week to enjoy my short weekends here. Its my weekend to.

My dad then comes down

Dad: is there a problem here?
Guy: ya your son is causing a ruckus out there annoying our family as we are trying to eat.
Dad: He is over 200 meters out. hes far enough from shore, Wait, who are you? Where are you from
Guy: It does not matter where I am from or live
Dad: yes it does, Or are you a renter?
Me: YES IT DOES, Ill keep my distance
Guy: (repeats his demands on the 6pm curfew and crap)
Dad: We have been at this cottage for over 60 years, and We have had jetskis for over 10 years and no one has complained about noise
Guy: well I have been dealing with it for over 60 years and never complained.
Dad: Your an Idiot.
Guy: No I am not, You better stop the noise during the day and evening or I will be calling the cops
Dad: You are a ing idiot, What will they do? Call them, tell them to stop at the Zion residence and ask for Dennis or Andrew.

meanwhile as he runs away with his tail between his legs looking like a jack ass in front of our family party, He walks back and he NOT ONLY does NOT have beach front property, he lives on the other side of the street, and he is RENTING the cottage for the weekend. Sorry buddy, just because you rented the cottage does not mean you can control lake Erie, Especially tell me (who lives on the water) what not to do.

Wow, who died and made him god? We have had similar run in's with people like that both at my cabin on the river and a friends lake cabin. It's never a neighbor that has a issue either, its always some jackhole that thinks because they spend a week they own the lake! At my buddy's lake house we had a neighbor politly ask us to be off the water at 6 due to the fact they were having a dinner party and we were, that's all it takes.

Tell him like we tell the moron neighbor down the street from us that complains about EVERYTHING! Move to the center of a hundred acre lot or learn to tollerate people and the baggage living near people brings. PERIOD! This guy called the cops everytime a Harley, a 4 wheeler or a goped was started and god forbid you play music while washing your car or the neighbor kids played basketball in the road. The cops eventually just quit responding all together.

Some people just dont get life. And TDR waterboxes are LOAD AS F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed loud skis are a nuance I cant stand to listen to them either. If it did go down like that he could have had a nicer attitude and asked you to quiet it down in a more polite manner. However there are two sides to every pancake.

I can work with people if they need, but SATURDAY, of all days, and well before 10pm a guy is going to complain about my 20 min of riding after then dinner hour on labor day weekend is rediculous. I mean if it was like a wedding taking place in the yard or on the beach, Ok, i can respect that. But you dont see me calling the cops or bitching at a person when they go by in a Gofast boat, or if the yapping little punting dog next never shuts up at 3am.... I deal with so I can have mine. You blast your music and have beach partys till all hours of the night. I wont complain. Let your dog bark all day. I wont complain. Rev your POS 1987 Mud truck all day. I dont care.... Just dont ruin my day when I cause a little bit of noise.



And Penguin, thats what my pops said. He was trespassing.

What I find strange is how long people will 'suffer' before they say anything. I had some guy tell me he'd been listening to my ski for 4 summers straight and it was 'like a mosquito buzzing in my ear", and he couldn't take it any more. The funny thing is, I always practiced in his part of the lake because it is secluded and very wooded so I wouldn't bug the hell out of people. I had no idea there was even a house back there and I've lived on the lake for 35 years. I told him I had no problem avoiding his shoreline except when I was passing thru. People need to communicate better.

I have a neighbor who took early retirement. He is one house over from me. He is literally sanding ALL of the paint off his house and 2 outbuildings on his property with a little palm sander. Not scraping off the loose stuff, but sanding down to the original wood. This was going on a minimum of 8 hours a day. Honest to God. So I told him what hours I worked and what hours my wife worked, and that he could sand to his heart's content during those hours. Otherwise put the Makita down or there will be blood shed. He has complied thus far. He just had no idea he was bugging us.

So the TDR was loud enough to upset someone off the beach. If it is annoying at that distance then it is certainly annoying to beach residents weather they complain or not. Why is there an almost perfect correlation between jetskiers and obnoxious behavior??? Reinstall the stock muffler and grow up.

Kevbo... It has NOTHING to do with Growing up buddy. I ride far enough offshore that on a normal day it is not horrible to hear. If you think me putting a waterbox of my ski with EVERY bolt on mod imaginable is obnoxious behavior and I need to grow up... then I guess half this forum needs to grow up. But you know what Im here to have fun. So a guy with a 400k dollar boat with thru hull exhaust needs to grow up and put stock pipes on too?

I dont know how people can ride with TDR boxes. My stock waterbox with a factory pipe is too loud for my liking.

But either way he shouldn't complain, if i have to quiet my ski, then every cigarette boat on the lake must run a muffler. Funny how someone will complain about a 2 cyl <1L engine with an exhaust and not dual 8 cylinder 5 Liter engines with NO exhaust.

I wouldn't mind my own ski having a lower sounding rumble. It is kind of tinny sounding. Maybe I dried out my exhaust too much? Do the XMetal boxes really have a throatier sound?

See the TDR in my ski sounds diff then most from what I seem to hear. My Waterbox seems a little quiter then both the Xmetal box and the ATP box. All of which sound pretty good depending the set up. as Anyone though who has heard my ski. it is FAR from tinny. Proformance1 and myself have the same waterbox, but yet our skis sound WAYY different

running flow valves with waterboxes increases volume too, i removed mine at the weekend and the change was huge

that being said, i guarentee if andy had a stock water box that d!ck would have still complained, people dont like the sound of a 2 stoke stand up and thats what they complain about wether it has a a/m waterbox or not

Yeah, I dont run a flow control valve... I just DUMP water into that box. It is for sure a little calmer then when no water runs into it.
