i hear ya xeon, i just look at it from the other guys perspective too. we are into 2 strokes, your neighbour whom is probably not going to be renting there next year is not. the amount of fun on your ski should not be measured by how much noise it makes, thats all. sooooo. grow up. haha.

Seriously , Loud boxes don't enhance any performance so why have one ? Dry stock boxes do and they are loud enough. I'm very sensitive to my neighbors needs be them renters or not . I think noise is a VERY IMPORTANT thing to consider as we draw enough negative attention just riding doing our thing . I wager noise is the single most complained about issue concerning PWC operation .

We as a group should give this item some serious R+D . If we don't we will find more and more places off limits . Make no mistake we WILL loose this fight 10 out of 10 times .

x2, a race or sanctioned event is one thing but everyday freeriding is totally different. Xeon has a wicked spot and right now only one renter got mad enough or was having a bad day and actually said something. Nobody on the lake likes hearing our skis, we have a cottage too on lake erie and the neighbours will put up with it for a few hours one or two weekends a summer but they come out to the cottage to kick back and get away from the city for some peace and quiet. I love 2 strokes and i know how annoying our riding style sounds. It would really suck if the CAN-am ride was botched from cops showing up and handing out tickets for noise polution etc. We gotta keep the non jetskiers happy. we don't have a choice about that one. Xeon i am not preaching at ya nor do i think that you did anything wrong, just hope you can see that this could be a problem down the road. whats that they say about burning bridges?

i could do that too at my place but the problem for xeon is that someone has finally spoken up about the noise, hopefully no one else does but it is something to think about as it is his local ride spot. If he wants to keep it and not have cops being called then he should think of a solution.

I get my exhaust mentioned on calm days. Surf days its fine as the wind and waves kills the noise. My new ski will have a stock waterbox because i feel that there are no power gains from aftermarket waterboxes. But that said i do like the sound of our tdr water boxes. Lol. In my opinion people like to complain because they are complainers but i will change for the greater good. I just feel sorry for the first person that complains after i install a stocker

I dont know how people can ride with TDR boxes. My stock waterbox with a factory pipe is too loud for my liking.

But either way he shouldn't complain, if i have to quiet my ski, then every cigarette boat on the lake must run a muffler. Funny how someone will complain about a 2 cyl <1L engine with an exhaust and not dual 8 cylinder 5 Liter engines with NO exhaust.

Any one want to buy a TDR waterbox? haha... I have one and its super loud, I'd like to swap it out with a stocker but I still have a couple months of riding before it gets too cold.

I can understand both sides of the argument here. On smaller lakes (like the one I ride) it just pisses everyone off. I've been confronted as well and I just tell them that we all have to share the lake and tell them I only come out on weekends and rotate my launch points.

I do like that its loud so dumb drunk drivers can hear you coming...

Hey you guys with TDR's....I had one and sold the ski to a friend....we tapped a hole in it and added a inlet....and a flow control valve (2 total) and it sounds sick....quiet but deep!

No, they just gather up a posse if 30 or more and do poker runs all day long. I measured over 80 decibels for a total of three hours one weekend.

Thats why i live here. PWC capital of the US. Run anything you want as loud as you want!

But there is one thing i cant stand and that is douche bag kids with their 550's and 650Sx's with no water box's thinking their all cool being loud. There is nothing more annoying than a POS 440/550/650SX with no water box buzzing around your area. SUPER loud and goes stock speeds, FN lame!!!
If your ski is gonna be loud, it better have some major balls or hual ass in a straight line IMO..

We are always givin the punks with no water boxes a hard time. I always ask them if they brought their goggles... :biggrin: They are like what? Goggles? What for? I dont say anything and walk away. Then when I get on the water with them, they realize what the goggles were for... Muahahahaa

We don't tolerate loud skis at our local break. I hate to listen to that crap when I am trying to relax on the beach in between sessions. No one wants to hear it.

I would not mind seeing all the TDR boxes and old Xmetal boxes thrown into a pile and destroyed. ha

I am not a fan of loud anything (stereos voices cars trucks skis dirt bikes snow mobiles dogs). I thought it sounds funny how you "dont tolerate loud skis at your local break". Are you the pipe police ??? Do you give friendly warnings, talk smack or give a stink eye ??? What is the normal process to make sure that nobody disturbs you while you are trying to relax between sessions ???

Same here. I had the old XM box with front exhaust and side rear exhaust and while riding it was fine for me, but sit on the bank and let someone else ride it and ya just want to use the a--bag for target practice to make the noise freakn stop. I installed an OEM WB and it helped considerably.
No reason for that crap IMO. No different then my redneck neighbor with his crappy sounding Harley Exhaust running up and down the street anoying everyone in a 2 block radious. You tollerate it but constantly asking yourself WHY THE F would anyone want their POS to sound like that.

Well, we have a lot of condos and people on the beach and just clearing the beach for us to ride causes issues. Everyone I ride w/ is in agreement on this issue just to try to keep the peace w/ everyone. Also, I didn't say "I" I said "We". No one that we have asked to quiet down their ski has thought we were dicks for asking, most realize that it's not gonna help the situation and switch them out. It's not a big problem or anything and if someone said no you then whatever... Run it and beach patrol will handle the situation cause eventually it will annoy too many people and they will get sick of hearing about it and say something. We just try to police our zone ourselves and beach patrol like it that way...

I really like the sound of composite waterboxes vs. aluminum.

Stock SN or FX-1 SMC boxes sound deep and throaty with a A/M pipe. I dont think their really is a performance difference when it comes to what a water box is made of(just guessing). A alum box might last longer and are more readily available, but the "alum ting" sound is always there and is louder and is much higher pitched.
Then of couse the internal baffling arrangement/ water flow, etc. makes a big difference too with alum. box.
