Piston damage

I’ve got a 92 sn with a 701, 61x cylinder and 62t bottom. Factory pipe, msd ignition and a ada head. I don’t yet know the dome size but the po always ran it on pump gas. It was having starting problems ( in the water) but ran great on the trailer. I decided to start digging and immediately found damage. It’s amazing it ran at all. I was hoping to get some insight on what would cause piston damage exactly the same on both pistons. Appreciate the help.

what dome size ? what was target compression ?

I would assume raised compression, due to additional components and ADA head ?

from what i can see both pistons burnt on exhaust port .....too hot .....and looks like piston wash indicates >>

jetting to lean ? or too low octane gas for the compression ? or both .....

Can’t really tell in the pics but is there any chamfer on your exhaust ports? Maybe it was poorly ported and someone didn’t add back the chamfer.
