I think total it weighs over a pound, you don't feel it in your back, the straps are the only part I notice. I made my fist version with a non pivot and depending on how you would stand, you would either see nothing but the ski or ground, so the counter weight keeps the camera level, you can tell when I go from kneeling to standing the camera moves.

I thought about it, but it was easier to go over the vest and it lets me take it off in the surf without sinking in the ocean for any adjustments

Best is just wear it as a separate backpack. That way you can take it off to adjust or hand over to another rider.

I have 3 now, one on the waist, and tow shoulder ones, but I want to add another across the chest to keep the shoulder straps in place

The video below demonstrates what a counter weight can do for a camera. Great idea bojangles. I would like to get a person on a sit down out there to shoot some video with a Lensse Stabilizer on a gopro. Or if anyone has the balls to get in the water and shoot video like in surf movies.

Ive been wanting to try that. I have a floating handle mount for mine, and I have wanted to go out and stand out in the surf and get some close up shots
