Plugs, what do you think?

This plugs are out of my Bro-in-laws RN.. Curious on feedback? Ski seems to run decent, after long rides, it does seem to load up some. It doesn't have alot of snap out of the hole. It's stock with a prop, grate and B-pipe....Pete's plugs.jpg

I think they're overdue for replacement. The condition of those plugs tells me your bro in law is pretty lax on maintenance. As far as how his ski runs: you'll have one of two things, a rich stumble, or a lean hesitation. Need to find a happy medium between the two.

Plug testing is a specific process. Going for a cruise at varying rpm ranges then pullk g them out at the end of the day isnt going to tell ypu anything useful about your tuning. Tuning is a process, and you need to work bottom up looking for specific inconsistancies.

As for the corrosion on the plugs, mine get like that too long before i need to change my plugs. I always have 2 replacement sets. Bad boys racing set my ski up perfect so the moment it acts up i change the plugs.

Whats the best way of determining which is which while riding.?

I believe too rich will bog and die, while lean will take a second and then when the fuel builds in the carb it will catch up and start pulling again. Something that I have heard so if wrong somebody please correct

Also I'm sure if extremely lean the ski will die also but I think if things are close on the adjustments than only rich makes it bog to die

I agree with mike.... Lean bogs usually have a cough or a hesitation before lighting, whereas rich is more of a slow clean out or will die altogether..
I'm familiar with tuning somewhat, I was more curious of first thoughts at looking at the plugs. He changed the plugs out last season. I'm gonna take a look at his piston wash and he'll address his tuning from there. We'll see how it runs with a set of new plugs, maybe it'll solve the problems.. Thanks for the feedback....

There is no way to determine how a ski is running based on how plugs look unless you use a brand new set of plugs and know how to do a plug chop correctly. Unless of course they are fried to a crisp or dripping with premix. Even then, It's just a starting point.
