Polaris Octane opinion

There is nothing that JSS can do that will correct any problems with the electrical box. It uses rubber straps/snaps to hold it closed.

With all the mods to do that will make it handle better still makes it fall way short of the handling of a SN superjet or even a kawi 650sx. It just does not turn. Straight line they are super stable.

You would be better off putting a super steep grate with aggressive scoop to help slow the motor, I think I remember them doing that when I rode them.

The original octane idea was going to be great until Polaris let their engineers get to it. After that it went down hill.

JSS has some kind of clamp they use on the cover of the ebox to help. check it out. http://www.jetskisolutions.com/p89_polaris_octane_electrical_box_service.html

All in all I am saying the octane seems like the best ski to start with from stock. I wish they still made them.

I disagree. for the prices that octanes go for (3500+) you could get yourself a nice limited round nose, so why bother? The octane will always handle worse, and parts will be less accessible

I think the octane has its place, but not as a Superjet substitute

Your going to pay 500+ for a used B pipe and at least 1100+ for a knock off skat trak mag pump and thats just those tow mods alone. I dont see why you think $3500 is a bad price for what your getting with an octane comparited to a $2500+ stock late 90's round nose. Dont get my wrong I have a 96 superjet and love it but I still gotta give the octane respect for what it is.

ok here my take on the octane v.s. superjet. i bought one of the 1st octane's back in 02. used it just for c.c. racing. (stock class) it was good for what it was made for racing in stock class v.s. superjets. once the sxr came along it was work to beat them. yes you needed tubbies and a few other things to make it turn better. the power in an octane is great in stock form. pump hooks up great. little carb tuning. i replaced the stock crap ele box with one from a kawasaki xi that solved the water issue. the hull needs some help bond line sealing pump inserts leak wet foam.(just like a superjet buy the way) i sold my octane to a menber here a year or so ago. i miss it. but i have had all of them at the same time superjet, octane, sxr. all i have now is superjets.there available, parts all over the place.you can beat the crap out of it and it just wants more. if you bust a hull there easy to find. my 2 cents if you have just one ski to pick get a superjet.

Octane was the first stand up I ever rode. It had raised compression, running race fuel. It pulled HARD! As for turning, I can't compare to kawi, yama -08 and +08. This is because at the time I did not even know how to turn. :dunce:

I own an 03 Octane that I bought from another forum member lat year. Yes, they have their flaws such as tray leaks, heavy flywheels....... but it's a great ride with tons of power. I won't sell mine anytime soon.

I think your pricess are a bit off. for $3500 today you could get a well set up Round Nose with footholds, b pipe, prop, enhancer, tubbies and extras.

In this form it would match the octane in power, yet have tons of benefits:

better ebox, quicker revving, cheaper parts, wayyyyyyy better carbs

might match the performance, nah. ran a b piped, propped, ada head, and a ported motor RN today. my octane is heavier then the sj and i'm 100lbs heavier then the sj rider. who ever got the jump won the race. my ocatne still needs a little tuning.

ride an octane, make you're own choice. i like it a lot better then sj's and my sxr.

i think the things i love most about the octane is that its so stable and the tray is so wide - the thing i hate most about it is that it is a huge PITA around the race course.

i'm a bit conflicted i guess ... i love my octane and i'm sticking with it this race season, but i really wouldn't recommend one to anyone who wanted a race ski, they are just too much effort on the course (unless you are Sheldon and can leg drag the snot out of it)

if you dont plan on doing any race events, i'd say its deffinatly a ski to consider.

I've ridden an octane and sxrs and compared to my SXI i just cant get used to how wide they are. they both feel clumsy to me though they are much more stable straight line.

I have an 03 Polaris Octane. I've ride SJ and SXRs but I they feel really wired in straight aways and want to roll over. When I first got my Octane I took it to Wamiltons in Florida, payed to have it put in a carbon fiber hull so that took off about 100lbs. I have put tubbies, a much more aggressive intake, and a modified SJ ride plate on it. Now it turns beautifully and it's top speed is 56 MPH, and it will keep up with S4s and a some highly modified SXRs and SJs. Also I race water cross down here in Texas and do very well.

I put a polaris based 900 in it this year, and ill be taking the motor out and putting it into a eme signature series. I'm really wanting to keep the octane since it will basically be a full ski without the motor electronics and the waterbox, but im think she might have to be sold off to someone

I've spent a little time on an Octane and I have to concur with every one- it handled poorly, mainly it turned very flat, about 10x worse than a Super Jet with out Tubbies

i just roll my octane out whenever somebody boast that they have a fast boat. my superstock world finals winning boat at 62 mph leaves sxr1100s in the toolies. and a couple straight away passes has my adrenalin soo jacked up from just trying to hang on.

Can you please list the mods that you have done to your 62mph Octane. I am interested in making mine a superstock boat and your boat seems to be a great example.

Thanks
