Polaris octane options?

Was on copart and saw a Polaris octane ski for sale. Head was taken off and it said it wasn’t running. What are some options for this ski? Is there any Yamaha conversions for it. If so, Engine only or pump too? I know anything is possible with some creativity.

Yeah it’s definitely a Polaris engine. Have a Superjet currently. I know they had some decent success in the racing area with it. Just wondering if anyone has done any conversions in it? I have a spare 61x/701 that needs a trans plant.

Yes, a few guys have swapped Yamaha twins into the octane hull. Wamilton built a limited few octane hulls with Yamaha twins when he was involved with the production. There’s a couple triple cyl swaps out there as well.

Cool, I’ll have to keep an eye on this bid. It’s in MO. Might not be worth it for myself after all the shipping and buyers fees. Think it’s just over $1k already

I rode some dudes Yamaha powered Octane at the New York ride once and fell in love with it instantly!

It feels very right! Perfect match IMO!

It was cheaper for Polaris to purchase the FPP for the Octane than to re-design a new pipe just for the Octane. The 777 Pipe that came in the runabouts actually made more power. Just would not fit.

I can understand the appeal of the more mainstream Yamaha motor, but isn't the hot 777 Polaris motor a big part of what makes an Octane so cool? It was the "mod from the factory" back in the day wasn't it?

I have been on several 701 converted Octanes and they are a joke compared to the real deal. I have 3 777 octanes and they are insanely fast. 100 hp vs 70 hp doesn’t compare no matter what language you’re speaking

In stock Class Racing the Octane was fast, but Polaris messed up the handling. Thing turned about as tight as a Canoe. If it got ahead of you it was hard as hell to pass unless they blew a turn. They came out with a fix by cutting the rear bond line out, not legal in stock class but because it was a Dealer upgrade, it was legal. This helped turning but it still did not turn great. If you added tubbies it made it much better but not stock legal. Power was awesome. Pulled like a freight train.

The 777 is no slouch. It needs cleaned up on the bottom end a touch. The FPP Octane Chamber is slightly longer than a mod chamber but a hair shorter than the limited Bpipe Chamber, The upgrade was that they welded a larger sleeve over the exhaust stinger and allowed the incoming headpipe water to stay out of the inside of the chamber. It was an effort to cool the chamber stinger at the hose end and flow into the waterbox. Xscream also used to mod some there b pipes the same way if I recall

you can really wake it up with some hot seat or Polaris intake manifolds and mikuni based 44-48mm carbs. A Lightened Flywheel, Total Loss ignition is a whole different feel. Even a remapped stock PVL CDI will wake it up a notch. My 02 Octane is a rocket with the watcon head/hot seat domes, vforce sled reeds, Octane FPP Dry Pipe. My 2003 is a stump puller as well. I have sponsons on both octanes and they help quite a bit. The -2 UMI pole and a shorter turn plate make the overall ski feel solid. Way better than a stockish handling round nose. But they all run hot and straight.. leak water for days. Great range for cruising the lake or river all day. Just keep the elecs dry and put a pool noodle inside the hood liner! -Octard for life!
