I love my octane more than any ski I have ever ridden. but I have been with out it all summer and have had plenty of time to get used to the WCF vision that I hijacked from the WCF shop when I dropped off my two octanes for some much needed overhauls.
so today for the first time I got to rip them around side by side. to say they are night an day is probably the biggest understatement you could possible make in a comaparison of these two skis. where the Vision has tons of power trying to rip itself from your grip, the octane has slightly less, but is more manageable since the hit isnt till mid range. where the Vision is scalpel sharp in the corners and and sticks hard in a turn, the Octane is capable of controlled slides and does so effortlessly. think of it as drifting on a jet ski. all you need to do is give it more throttle and the drift is over and she roars to life and takes off like a cruise missile. the Octane loves to run WOT and as quite stable at speed, the vision...can get a little squirrely. (to me) the Octane is balanced and flies through the air and over the water effortlessly. the vision, just seems to me requires a little more work.
now... the real question, what does all this mean?
well there is no better way to break it down that to just quote my oldest son who's Octane Steve still has and is working on. " I think I'd rather just have another vision".
the vision is lighter, more powerful, has more potential, (because it's SJ based) there are more upgrade options out there, and in my son's opinion, it's easier to "do tricks" on. is he right? maybe.
The octane is more stable at all speeds, better ballanced and IMHO, more controllable and manageable. Am I right? also a resounding maybe.
These are our opinions based on the side by side comparison of our most beloved ski and the new kid in the garage. the verdict is plane to see. the kids ski is going to finish being overhaled and will either be sold or relegated to back-up or parts status. Steve has already been informed that a second vision may be in the future. we'll just have to wait and see.
