Pole mods

Have a '99 SJ. Know how to shorten the pole for freestyle. The question is..... Can i put a breather tube in it? What tips can you give if any, or is this something that can only be done with an aftermarket pole? Gonna get a bracket soon, but will get a "double hole" if the tube is doable.

Let the opinions fly

I asked this question a few years ago and was told that the foam was required to maintain the poles strength ! If you cut it out your pole is likley to snap

Damn. this stinks. Do the cables run through the tube, and act as a breather as well? Maybe i'm not too sure how the double tube thing works to begin with. Skinnyman, did you cut your pole? and how much?

All info is appreciated

the cables run thru the tube.the flex pipe is 1 1/2 flex from home depot.Take the pole off the bracket take some of the foam out of the pole from the inside.Grind the bracket a little so the flex pipe fits thru the bracket.the flex pipe on mine only goes up in the pole about 8 in.
can send you some pics tonight.

The longer the better (the run up the pipe) - an aftermarket pole with a dual breather up it is great - submarines just keep going and going and going! - Power 360's are better because the ski pulls properly when the hood is under the water because it still breathes through the pole air intakes.

Ref the foam - a stock pole relies to a degree on the foam to provide structural integrity/rigidity, removing it will weaken the pole -if you don't mind the trade off then do it! - I never managed to find anything that would dissolve the foam (that would be ideal) - the best thing I can think of is a wire brush on a flexi shaft attached to a drill. I did try a piece of drain pipe with teeth cut into it to run up the pole but it only goes a few inches (till the first bend in the pole) and gets stuck..

Have fun!...
