Is dual cooling necessary for rec riding in TX with a pipe and head?

A Superjet is OK with its stock 8mm cooling line. Old Kawasakis with 7mm lines and fittings will get hot enough to scald. Most electric bilge pump failures come from debris (zip-tie tail) stopping the pump. Siphons are good to keep if possible.

Good info. That's a significant difference. My sxr was set up parallel cooling for racing and I was wondering why. My 750 x2 was running very hot on the pipe side so I switched it to parallel cooling and am getting better temps now. My Superjet almost runs cold with dual cooling.

Yours is a good explanation for why.

One thing I learned with my SXR was the ski ran better when the engine bay temps were kept as cool as possible. But I dont think the SXR breathes as well as the SJ does. Have not found the same effect on the SJ's. But I have not had my SJ setup up in race stance since 2004.

The thing with too much cooling... Is you can always restrict it to whatever temperature you want, with ease.

I ran single cooling on my 735 and it was perfectly fine. If you can't tell the sound differences from when it stops getting water you need to ride skis more! You should know pretty quick when the water stops..

We were speculating that the pipe gets hot enough to steam (not boil) and water gets in, hits the pipe and causes substantial humidity which effects the fuel burning.

Can't say that's it, but my x2 an better when the pipe was cooler too and I don't think it was the exhaust gas temps that were changing substantially.

So after 17 votes and some great discussion its almost 50/50. I have tapped the manifold, and Y'd it. I am leaning towards running dual because I was convinced that the Blaster Mod pipe runs hotter than the superjet mod pipe. I will probably ride single cooling for a couple of weeks with the thermometer stickers to make sure how hot it really is. However, the lakes will not be as warm as they are later in the season. Thanks again for all of the input!
