Other Poormans solas pump vein section

Anyone taken a stock yami pump and put it on a lathe and take off material on the vein section?, similar to the solas pump vein section? I have the solas and a couple stock pumps and I was looking at them and other than the big hub and more veins I wonder if it would benefit the stock pump? We have a lathe at work so I may have to just try

I think the tater pump was a stock stator that tried being turned into a mag. I believe snowxr was the guy that did it.

The Solas pump is already the poor mans Mag pump lol. I don't know how much you could improve the stock pump on a lathe but if you have the will and resources, I'd say go for it.

i think the integrity of the pump will be compramised big time. those 6 veins are the only thing holding the thing together. you can get away with thinner stainless and double the veins, but put any power to a mod stock pump and i'll bet it grenades. the larger hub makes more pump pressure and less room for water turbulence behind the prop. thinner, shorter veins mean less water friction going acrossed the veins. thats why the solas center section is the poor mans mag. far from the best but better than stock. 12 veins straightens out the water and counter acts cyntrifical force. put a 12 vein pump in any boat that wants to roll over at speed and it'll be like a totally different boat. never wants to buck you off going straight

Isnt T.C. already doing this?

Yup, just got off the phone with Taylor. All I am going to say is that he has it done in his ski and another ski on the central coast and noticed good gains, if not better than the solas section.

If you have access to the machines call around and see if you can buy just the stator section to press in.

Dont shorten the vanes, the jetstream already swirls with a smooth nozzle installed. If anything grit blast and fill between the vanes with epoxy and use a big hub impeller. This will remove that airspace for faster priming.
