How can it go back into the water system, isnt it pressurized? Maybe I am missing something?

Am I thinking too much into this?

:woot: I'm most excited about the backflow preventor. It was kind of a guess. I design and draft water systems all the time but don't really know what they look like. :banghead:

That is one of the most unusual looking backflow preventers that we have installed. It takes up alot less space than a conventional-style and sometimes you NEED that extra space.

I used them where you have metered water system where you don't want the water you paid for to go back in to public water lines or in a system where you are raising the pressure or where you are adding well water into a neighborhoods public watermain. I'll also call one out at the source of a fire main connect at a potable water main.

In certain situations, i.e.: a water main failure or a fire department pumper hooked up to a hydrant, water may be allowed to backfeed into the municipal supply. A backflow preventer (if properly functioning) will prevent the water from doing this.

Tim---this might be a good one for you to check out. Maybe your bosses will send you to one of the TREEO courses---you could learn alot about backflow and that in turn would allow you to specify the correct unit for whatever application you are needing backflow protection.

They even use backflow preventers on household garden hose fittings.

I use a spray nozzle and turn it off before turning off the water, I get sprayed when I turn off the water because the pressure in the hose is greater than the closed connection.

A simple representation, but if the pressure in the hose was greater than my household feed, for whatever reason, water would flow back from the hose and into the household supply.
