Kristi has an HP Pavilion DV9060us and it just turned off without any notice while playing a dvd. Now the light on the side won't even turn on when it's plugged up to let you know it's charging... Totally dead...

Any ideas? Has anyone had any similar probs?

Just an initial guess based on that info but it sounds like your AC jack is toast and then then the battery dies and then the machine died and now it is dead forever. Yes...I see it daily. HP/Compaq usually.

you can't fix the ac jack? seems like a simple problem. my old hp laptop is acting up with the jack and now you have me scared. I have software on there that I can't transfer because I don't have the disks or keys......

Actually...some you can.....well all you can if you can find the part and micro solder it in.

Give me the model #s and see it they are the type that disconnect from the motherboard.

Madmat probably has it nailed.
The bad thing is that it is most likely built into the MOBO.
It is fixable but you need someone that REALLY knows what He is doing.

To transfer "Applications" not files, it can be done but it is a PITA and lenghty process and you also need to know what you are doing. You need to extract ALL the applications files and Export the Registry keys, etc....

You are better off buying a 3rd party application to do that for you.

This is one of them.

I haven't used it so I am not sure how good it is but it gets good reviews.

x5, or whatever.

If you are going to try repairing the mobo (as opposed to replacing), find someone that knows soldering. I *needed* a special heat gun to melt all the solder on the connector for replacement. Luckily my dad had 1.

If you're going to try the repair yourself, here's some solder removal tips: http://www.infidigm.net/articles/solder/
