Pre-2008 vs. 2008+ Superjet

Putting this out there to all the people that have experience with both the pre-2008 and 2008+ Superjet.

I am new to standup skis (never ridden one) but do have experience with motos. I am looking to buy a new ski and hoping for some solid advice. Seems as though i can get a 2017 completely stock for $8k or i can get a 2007 which has plenty of mods and i assume plenty of hours on it as well.

I can afford the $8k but obviously would rather spend half that. My logic tells me to buy as new as i can and then if i want to add mods then buy a cheap modded ski as a donor.

My question is this, are the years models similar in regards to interchangable parts?

Also, it seems like there is a lot of people that prefer the 2008. Is this really rhe case now with the later model skis?

really depends on how you use it? 08+ has handling benifits over the older
i like the older hull better for play riding but the newer is better for carving ... so you must decide what you wanna do w it!

Until i get some experience riding i won't really know what i am wanting to do.

So if carving is better on the newer ski, does this mean that handling is better in general? Obviously no one wants to ride alone so if i take people out for the day that have never ridden before will it be more fun on the newer ski?

Also, as for parts replacement/swapping, are all the usual modified parts like the prop, pole, steering, and ride plate, etc, interchangeable between the year models? Ideally i will buy a newer ski that is stock and then once i am comfortable and start to want more from my ski, i will buy an older ski with lots of mods and swap the parts. Then i have new ski with all the bells and whistles for myself and a stock spare ski for when the mates come out (or the missus if i can convince her).

Also, i have looked at the Krash skis, seems like they are built for performance from the get go so don't require and modifications. Is this complete overkill for a beginner?

Almost everything is compatible, all motor and exhaust stuff is completely the same from 1996 to 2019 (and a lot of stuff is even compatible back further than that), ride plate and intake grate are different, impellers are compatible but the 08+ come with a way better stock impeller. In my opinion 08+ is better in every way, some people say they like the loser handling of the older hulls better. For a beginner I would say they are equally easy to learn on, once you are used to one the other will feel a little weird if you switch but it doesn't take long to get used to one or the other.

Not sure if it's the same in your neck of the woods in Sydney, but I just scooped up a year-end closeout on a new 2019 for 7k. See if any dealers nearby have any leftover stock and are willing to make a deal.
