Hey guys I hope this is in the right section, I was just wondering if a Used 701 engine $1200,00 (with complete ignition system, carb)

Is it worth that price I'm waiting on pics and how many hrs are on it they guy said about 12 he thinks
this motor would also be for a rickter fr-2 most likely

When in doubt, Throttle-out.
Depends on the cases, cylinder, and carb set-up.

A Single Carb set-up with a much more vertical intake manifold means the cases are not 62t's, but your cylinders are probably 61x's (I believe). This is more or less a blaster motor and the port timing combination isn't the most desired for the stand-up world... I personally have this style motor.

What you want are the dual-carburetors with the 62t cases and 61x cylinders. For $1200 with ignition, CPU, carbs, and (maybe) stock exhaust that would be a decent deal [more-so for the desired set-up]...

Someone else will probably chime in. I am going off what I have seen, but I am sure someone will correct me.

run, for 1200 you should be able to find a freshwater couch or alike with a 701 with sound compression maybe some am parts and swap the motor. sell the rest of the parts. i got a twin carb raider with a trailer last year for 700 and made all my money back. unless its ported with larger carb or blackjack and enhancer i would not spend 1200 on a stock 701 especially used. http://www.shopsbt.com/jet-skis/yamaha-jet-ski-engine-standard.html this is quickly searching, new from sbt, i know guys, with one year warrenty

Best case would be 62T bottom end with dual 38 carbs and ignition.
Might be worth 1200 if it is really clean and has verifiably low hours. But it sounds high.

more i think about it, this is actually priced about right, for example, lets say you find a 701 6ST/61X with intake and stock 38s and 62T ignition here on the X for $800, which i havent seen any 701s coming up for that price, and also the motors locally are likely to be fresh water only

$800 multiplied by 3% pp fees and 5% exchange rate difference on pp so 8% = $864
shipping on a motor to canada is normally around $120
import tax would be 13% = $104 (and thats without a UPS rape fee for brokerage) is $1088 landed

so $1200 already landed in ontario canada doesnt sound far off

id keep looking. deals do pop up. i found a raider in very good shape with a trailer for $475. needed a battery and had no title.

you wont pick up a SN for $1500 in canada, around here you are lucky if you can find a SN or $2000 in the middle of winter

you guys have to remember we dont have the plentyful supply of skis up here

That's not really the norm in my state, either. Yah it might happen, but it's so few and far between that "wait for one of those!" is useless advice (where I live).

ah. didn't realize it was Canada. Personally I would save a little more then and put the 1200 towards a complete ski. You get your motor and loads of extra parts in case something else breaks or if you have other builds.

Around here, all you ever get are the Kawi 650's for $1500 and the 750's for $1800. It's ridiculous! Midwest is all about the racing though...

I struggled to find my Yami SN SJ with a 701 for $1,900 cash...

^^ Exactly. I picked up my first standup, a 1990 SN with 650 for $600 and thought it was a DEAL.

Shortly after I drove 4,200 miles round-trip in five days to get two couches and a RN that was pretty cheap.
