The throttle plates are 44mm and the top of the carb is 44.5mm, how much improvement do you think it will make?

If your bore both sides of the carb without altering the venturi diameter and install larger throttle plates, you might improve the signal and increase the air flow.

Yes, THEY WILL RUN VERY NICE! I used them for years Chris! (#.0):highhorse: They might be a little old school, but for most of you freestyle guys, they will work a lot better than a lot of this newer stuff!
Just make sure the throttle blades and shafts are in good shape and not beat out from the shafts not shimmed up correctly.
If these are the real 'MCCOY' from Pro-Tec with the Mo-Flow 2 piece adapters and taper bored all the way out to the edge of the adapters they will not be disappointing when they are jetted right for the engine combination.

In what way are his 46 carbs modified? I'm not looking for exact details that would give away the secret, but what is modified? I always see everyone recommending them but have never seen anyone say what the mods are.

I have these carbs already - they need new throttle plates and a rebuild im trying to judge if its worth the money. I got them for pretty cheap.

Chuck yea they are the real protec- with the 2 part adapters and what not. Judging from what you said its seems like they might be worth building back up.
