Blaster pro tech pipe vs. factory pipe

I've read post on here that say the factory pipe is better. Problem is i'm desperate for a pipe to finish out the season and Factory pipe no longer makes the B pipe for the waveblaster. Should i be worried about the weight of the protech pipe cracking something, i jump a lot. With protech being the last to make a pipe I'm currious to read the lack of use of this pipe. Is there somthing I should know. Pipe hasn't arrived yet. I used the second generation Riva pipe for years and years of making repairs to such a poory designed mounting. I want to avoid years of repairs to another pipe.

I hate the Pro-Tec Blaster pipe with a burning passion.
It's an absolute pain to install, has way too many parts, and shakes like crazy.

My understanding is the pipe of choice is the Factory pipe followed closely by the riva red pipe. I run the riva red pipe, but thats only because that is what my ski came with.

Really? I have worked on the mach II on a number of skis and never had any problems. I like em. maybe not as much as a factory but about 3/4 or 7/8th as much. What else can you find? what else can be had for as cheap? I vote it the best low buck pipe.

factory all the way. the mach2 does work well falls off like a riva . to bad factory doesnt make any pipe for waveblaster anymore. go find a used one its worth the money.

Question, The factory mod, are you refering to the pipe made to fit the superjet but can be modified to fit a waveblaster? Also when you say the protech falls off like the riva do you mean rpm fall off or it actually breaks the mount and if falls into the hull? D__ I wish I bought the Factory years ago. Keep it commimg, Thanks to all who reply.

all the bolts fall out. mounts get chewed . just a crappy way to mount a pipe. i mean if you ride it 5 times a year its a good pipe. but if you put 200 hours on it in a season it wont last. factory mod for blaster not superjet.

Exactly my experience.

I think Blowsion has the Blaster Mod pipe... If not I think Brian ay Thrust has a used one...

I'm running a factory B mod blaster pipe... Ski rips!

Ran a Pro tec on my old 5 mil blaster, it works, but it's bulkie, heavy, mounts suck... Just not the way to go IMO

I have a protec on my B1 right now and I can also admit to the poor mounting design and the extra weight of the pipe but at the same time the pipe is much thicker and more durable than a factory pipe chamber. There is a mount that bolts to the head and only one bolt lines up and there are 2 bolts that mount on the cylinder. First time riding all the bolts fell out but the pipe doesnt fall off (my coupler is mint) I replaced the lower bolts and resecured the upper bolt and rode again and they fell out again. This time I double nutted the lower bolts and put loctite on the top bolt and have had no issues since then. Ive never run the RIVA or the Coffmans (nobody mentioned the Coffmans which is another option and is similar to the RIVA and the Protec design) but the Protec does make good power and has tunable water screws like the factory pipe and is much cheaper so I wouldnt be afraid to use that pipe if you are on a budget for a used pipe or if you prefer to buy new... just loctite the upper bolts and double nut the lowers and youll be fine. Braaaap!!

Thanks again for input, this site is great wish i'd read more 2 yrs ago when I built the motor. Update. I bought the protech pipe and just rode it. The chamber is larger than the Riva gen II. Now for some weight comparisons.

1. Yamaha OEM 19lbs 11oz.
2. Riva gen II 12lbs 1oz.
3. Protech 18 lbs 8oz.

This includes manifold and mounting hardware

My impression: Mounting almost as good as OEM. still a pia to install. especialy first time. Room around engine plenty.

Performance: compared to Yamaha 1000% better compared Riva gen II much better top end and a touch better low end. I havn't tuned the pipe yet and it was set up for top end performance at Protech.

Weight comparison: you do the math but I can't imagine there is much weight savings with a Factory pipe. Factory from what I can tell uses a cast manifold so that leaves maybe 4 to 5 lbs in savings. The Riva is cast manifold and all stamped aluminum chamber and is only a little over 6 lbs lighter.
Concerns: none, come on the Yamaha exhaust is heavier than the protech with nearly identical mounting. Cylinder breaking is a fluke in my opinion with stock porting and stock compression. If any of you guys run the Riva gen II you know what I'm talking about. Very poor mounting, breaking lord mounts and what a pia to get silicone coupler secured. I'm not knocking the Factory pipe since I actually have not used one but compared to the trouble i've had with Riva I'm smilin.

150 - 155 psi compresion with cooling port added on stock head
ported clyinder by group k
ported intake manifold on 61x by group k
44mm stock carb with choke butterfly removed 115 pilot 145 main
hotrods crankshaft

I think you will be fine with the Pro tec riding in Iowa... We ride all year down my way, and most of us ride surf 100%... Blaster in flat water gets boring quick.. Surf ski's take a real beating every minute riding in surf...

My other B1 has a Factory mod pipe and I very much prefer the factory pipe over the Protec just for the weight savings and the lower center of gravity of the pipe setup as well as the power. You cant beat the weight and sound of a thinwall expansion chamber!

Did u use a thread sealer? U guys are scaring me with all this talk of bolts coming out! lol

i bet both pipes bolt on roughly the same amount of HP, but since the FP is stamped, lighter and more flexible on the mounts and coupler, it is more durable , taking more abuse. protec is a good pipe, but beat your boat and its falling apart. the blaster pipe points the stinger in front of the motor to the waterbox. the raider pipe points the stinger back on the exhaust side, since the raider has the waterbox in the back. will work on blaster but an inline silencer needs to be used. the stinger is also smaller on the raider pipes.

i'm back. I've noticed how much stronger the motor runs when this pipe gets warmed up. Protech has a non-adjustable water port that is there to prevent pipe from overheating in case operator failed to open 1 of 2 water srews on the head pipe. Does the Factory Pipe have this same water port, if not I was thinking about sealing of this port and making adjustment with other two adj water screws. I've never noticed pipe to hot to touch even with bottom and top screw comletely closed.
