Problem with ski "porpoising"

Well, here's my dilemma. I am somewhat new to the scene and I am looking for some help. I purchased a slightly modified '98 Kawasaki SXI Pro, and I feel like the ski wants to jump out of the water when I am up on plane and accelerate. It has an aftermarket r&d rideplate and I believe an r&d intake grate. I have tried to stand a little more forward in the foot well to keep the weight forward but it still seems to want to jump out of the water constantly.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening? Again, I am new to the stand up scene and this might be an ignorant question, but just thought you guys could shed some light.

Thanks

standing a little more forward aint gonna do it. you have to ride agressive... alot of it is throttle control
crouch low
elbows out
get your shoulders over the bars
lean it a tad to the left or right and ride the edge of the hull.

putting around mid throttle all straight legged is going to be slightly bumpy.

That hull is challenging to ride, but well worth the work. I rode that hull for 10 years and loved it. Like puddleracer said, just bend you knees and try to get your weight forward while you accelerate. You will find what works for you with some tray time. Have fun, that's a fun ski to ride!

Take a few washers out with you and install them between the rear ride plate and hull on the rear bolts.Basically you are angling the rear of the plate down to compensate for the proposing. Reason to take a few with you is to add till you get the ride you want!

I'm having the same problem buddy. Anything more than 1/4 throttle on my superjet and I'm constantly up down up down. I have never hit top speed on it because it just won't stay in the water.

I even have a R&D extended ride plate the worx intake grate.

I can get to full throttle now without porpoising. I still have OEM scoop grate and ride plate on a 2000 model.

I have to put all my weight on my front foot and lean way over the bars, like I'm riding head first, my knee is right up against the handle pole.

I took Yamanube's advice of ride more and it worked.

I shortened my stock pole 2.8" and rode it yesterday and that along with having an added day of learning to ride I can finally keep the ski in the water!

The shorter pole really helps me keep the ski down and get in a more aggressive stance and riding edges helps a lot.

This is exactly what I did and it worked really well on my 2001 SXi Pro. It still porpoises at the top end.

Okay it's been a while but during the off season I decided to put on a stock ride plate to see how it compared and WOW!! It makes the ski so much smoother and faster over the extended plate!! Both choppy and smooth water conditions are much much better. I can run WOT all day now!

My theory is with the extended plate the back end was riding too high in the water causing the front to bounce easily.

At my weight of 180lbs the stock plate is the way to go for me!! If I can find a deal on another stock plate I will D cut it and try that as well.
