I called Impros today to order my prop. I want to go with the skat-trak swirl.

Last month:
I was originally quoted at 250 for it at 12/17 with 3mm cut back. I ended up buying just a regular 12/17 for 200 from Atlantic jetsports.... Then after reading that they are not always true 12/17 or so I figured it would be worth the extra 50 to get it cut back, checked and balanced from impros... So I sent it back....

Now I called impros and they advised me to get a 13/16; or a 13/15 if I wanted the most bottom with a little loss of top.... I chose the 13/15 it came to 280 plus shipping.....

I trust his advise, and am not worried the price changed 30 on me.... But I see most guys on hear running 12/17 or such.... why I am I so different...

Does any one have a motor similar to mine! What are you experineces with your props?

Here is what ended up in my ski this year:
Self lightly ported cases
stock stroke
LPW Ported Cylinder (82.5)
ADA head 31cc domes
MSD digital dual channel total loss
Riva dual (buckshot) 48's
not positive on reeds and cages yet.....

xmetal waterbox front and rear exit
wetwolf cone
85 mm nozzle
CATS
blueprinted pump

And I weight 155ish...

Let me know if you have any advise!!!

Thanks-NICK

I definatly go the skat.... And i told him I wanted the 12/17 but I told him my mods anyhow.... I figured i would see what he said...

I know guys have had good results with the 12/17.... I too was wondering if he was giving me those pitches just beasue thats what they do on the concords.....

So what pitch are you skat trak guys running....

Skat is all I use. Ever since Skat-Trak started "hooking me up" in the mid 90's its all I use because of their service (yes, I pay for my own props).

I love my 12/17 swirl. Like all their swirls, it hooks up great in the fluffy stuff.

I'm running the 12/17 swirl. From what I've heard you do NOT want a 13/15 or 13/16 Swirl. Just because that works for the Concord that doesn't mean it works for the swirl.

There was a guy on the boards not too long ago trying to sell a 13/15 Swirl because he hated the way it performed. He wasn't able to sell it so he had to send it back out and have it repitched again to a 12/17.

I'm just going by what I have heard and the fact that I love my 12/17. I'm sure IMPROS has done a lot more testing and probably knows whats best.

Once again I am no expert on props, but I have heard the Skats pretty much always run true to pitch because they are a higher quality prop. Now I have heard that it is a good idea to have Solas's checked because they can be off.

Solas is made in Taiwan. Skat is made in the USA!

Which one do you think will be a better quality prop DIRECTLY from the Factory?

Once again I am not bashing on either company. I'm just going by what I've heard and personally I prefer to buy American.

That's what I'm saying. There customer service is awesome. When I was shopping around for a prop I ended up calling Skat to see what they recommended. When I called I got a very friendly and helpful english speaking American who took his time to explain everything about props to me. Yeah I know some of you are saying he was just being a salesmen, but this guy really went out of his way to help me and answer my noob questions.

After that phone call I knew that was the company I wanted to buy from. It also helped that I had ridden many identical boats recently with different props. Don't get me wrong the Concord is still a GREAT prop, but I personally believe the Swirl is a better prop.

Alright I'll get off my soap. Ya'll probably think I work for Skat.

I'm sure IMPROS has done a lot more testing and probably knows whats best.

I called impros a while ago and he highly recommended solas props. He said he even preferred an I-prop because it has better technology. I was kinda of surprised he spoke of them so highly (I-prop over skat?). I am quite baffled that nearly every shop recommends solas and a lot of the freeriders like skat (I understand in one aspect, they really do great sport promotion and its important to support them in return!). I'm kinda torn. I'm sticking with my I-prop for now but was hoping to switch it to a more adequate pitch later.

Nothing special. Ported 714, stock 38's, sj mod pipe, enhancer...

However, with your motor setup you may be better off with a 13/17 skat (SY44SW1317) or even a 14/19 if you crave top end. I say try the 12/17 you already have and if you need more, call Skat and they will make it right if you send in your 12/17.

I have heard that Solas props are a lot cheaper for shops to buy and they can mark them up much higher than Skats so that's why you see shops selling more Solas props.

Thats just what I've heard, but I'm not a dealer so I don't know the wholesale costs on each of the props.

I've also heard that, but Impros hinted that I would be better off repitching my I-prop then getting a skat, thats what I found weird.

I havent done that yet, I was considering what to do, and the mention that the Solas was supreme after I had just gotten the notion that skats were caught me off guard. I think they charge $50 to repitch? I know it was $100 for a repitch and cutback (balance, etc), mabye it was $70 I forget. I dunno, I'll figure it out next season, I got plenty of wrenching to do as is.

Just an FYI, dont assume american is always better quality. Where I work I see a lot of nice imported products (Taiwan included) and some not so nice. Same with product we manufacture here in America. I'm all for buying American and supporting the USA, but its unfair to specifically say that since its made in Taiwan it is lower quality. I think the thread 2lick was refering to was specific to Skat.

13/15 sounds about right for great low end grunt and min. top end loss. 13/17 concord is a great impeller also. I have been on boats w/ the 12/15's and it will lower your top end but the low end is great! they are a little more tempromental though and you can easily start to spin them (slightly) if you run a stubby cone and a bored nozzle. 13/17 is a good impeller and will work fro most applications for teh most part.

The reason we suggested a taller leading edge pitch for you is it appears that you have a pretty stout motor. 12 degrees with your estimated HP wouldn't do you much good in our opinion.

as for the difference in price from a month ago, I can't honestly say what Dave quoted you then, but I can tell you that the price you say we quoted you recently, is accurate.

We are never partial to any impeller MFG. In some cases Solas makes a better impeller, and in others Skat is best. Unless of course the customer specifies which brand they want...which was the case with you, Nick. There is very little difference in the Skat Free Ride and the Solas Concord however. Nevertheless, it is our opinion that there isn't much of a difference in quality. Dave Stewart worked for Skat-Trak for over 16 years prior to starting Impros and will be the first to say that they are a top notch aftermarket company. We also have a great relationship with Solas and they turn out an awesome product too.

Hope this helps clearify.

Good Luck!
