Surfriding propshafts

Is there and difference between OEM and the aftermarket ones ?? anybody have any issues with AM ? I bought OEM last time and was happy as usual with OEM .Thinkin about going AM this time

jetmaniac has the best deal in town. i've had to cut an impeller off a skat, so has superwetbrett and jetmaniac. i had an early maxxx shaft and unless he has a different shaft now i wouldn't run it either.

marine lube with teflon. its a mercury product but is commonly used on all outboards propshafts.

anti seize is not recommended here. all you doing with that is adding another dis-similar metal to aid in galvanic corrosion.

I only use marine grease for that application as well. I have never had an issue with an OEM shaft because it is made out of a good quality stainless.

The skat shaft leaves something to be desired. I cannot get the prop off my setback skat shaft right now. I have a spare prop on the shelf I have wanted to try but it will cost me cutting off my current prop and most likely replacing the driveshaft to make the change.

I am very unhappy that they skimp on the stainless quality yet we pay 1500 dollars for this pump.

The threads are galled up. I put the prop on by hand with marine grease and didn't over tighten. If they weren't galled up the prop would come right off.

I've though about welding a socket to an old midshaft to use instead of turning the prop tool but the skat prop tool will just twist anyway whether I hold that and try to turn the driveshaft or if I hold the driveshaft and try to turn the prop.

Bottom line is it is made like shat. I will never buy a skat shaft again.

There are multiple people who have experienced this same problem as well. When my prop or liner gets worn out I'm just going to get an OEM one cut from the maniac.

I have run OEM, WSM and Skat and am way more impressed with the Jetmaniac shaft by far. Excellent price, customizeable, to a degree, full thickness the entire length and hardened steel so its much stronger than the Skat or WSM.

Excellent customer service as well.
