Protec pipe. What Jets? Info?

Just bought this pipe and I'm looking for some info on it. All I know is that it's a protec pipe for a 650 (I'll have to match the ports) and it has a stainless chamber.

Anybody know what jets I should use for dual 38's?

To match the ports I'm assuming I just put gasket in place, go over the exposed area with a sharpie, and take the excess off with a rotary bit?

Also, any other general info on this pipe?

Sorry for the huge pictures, it wouldn't let me upload the thumbnails

i run that exact pipe on my 61x/61x blaster with a protec intake mani and dual 38's off my superjet.

used my factory pipe jetting since it was already in the carbs and just knocked the popoff down to 17psi since i am running open flame arrestors now.

using dual 38's from stock 62t superjet:

75 pilot
135 main
80 gram spring
stock needle and seat.

EDIT: you will definitely want a flow control valve with that pipe. i ran without it for awhile and noticed a big difference once i dried out the stinger a bit.

hits great for a pipe i pad 100 bucks for.

well worth the money. just as good as a b-hype....er b pipe

make sure to port match the manifold since it is 650 to 701

not a good idea to run a 650 manifold on a 701. they are not the same. you will have a water leak into the exhaust port.it may work for alittle wile.

Even if I take the 650 out with a rotary bit to match the 701?? I've talked to a couple guys that have done this and they said it worked great

you cant add material with rotary bit.just put the 701 gasket against and you will see. the pro-tec pipe mite not b as bad a a factory pipe manifold. i havent used a pro-tec pipe in years. motoman has my last one lol.

no the water jacket is smaller on a 650 then a 701. just check a 650 exhaust gasket next to a 701 exhaust gasket and you will see what i am talking about. i had a water leak on one of the 1st blaster i had. boat ran nice on land but when it went in the water it would run on 1 cylinder. found it to be a 650 exhaust manifold on a 701 leaking water into the exhaust port!!!

"The exhaust in the photo is a "Pro-Tec stainless steel A-Body" exhaust. That exhaust can be used with the stock 701 exhaust manifold or can be used with a Pro-Tec exhaust manifold. With the Pro-Tec exhaust manifold you will gain about 2 horsepower over the stock manifold. We no longer have any of the 701 (61X) manifolds but you can use the 701 (62T) manifold in its place. The 701 (62T) manifolds sell for $100.00. You will also need a couple of spacers to reduce the mounting hole size on the manifold. Please let us know if you would like to order a manifold and the spacers."

Found this info on the forum, apparently this came from someone at protec. I'm assuming I have an "A" pipe by the look of it. could I run it with the stock 701 manifold?

only thing i did with mine was put the gasket up to my cylinder(it looked perfect)

then put it up to the pipe(was no where near perfect) so i just dremeled out the manifold to match the gasket, since i knew the gasket was the same as my cylinder outlets.

mine was already bolted together (manifold to headpipe) and the bolts looked like they were in there good so i just left them together. i send that blaster to the moon and havent had any problems with the pipe falling off.

i don't even have any brackets holding the chamber on either, just two hose clamps on either end.

if he is saying the 650 won't match up i would grab both gaskets and take a look at it. if it doesn't work just put the headpipe and chamber on(if it looks like they need to be matched when you put them together then dremel away)

good luck.

Alright cool. I talked to protec today. (Amazing customer service, first ring someone picked up and could answer all my questions without having to transfer me or anything)

He said yes, I should have to match the ports on the manifold but just leave the manifold to headpipe the way it is. He said while I can run the stock 701 manifold it would be better to run the protec one.

I think I'll just match the protec manifold, throw that on there, and if I run into any problems I'll change to the stock manifold.

Thanks for all the responses.

Yeah I read that in one of your threads. Did you ever run it on the 701. I thought I read somewhere that you wanted to put it on a 701?

got a freeride ported 701 complete with B pipe and am installing it as we speak :bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide: :bananapowerslide:
