Pulled motor to find coolant leak-then found this?

Hello, 2000 RN been having a problem with exhaust leak and water cooling leaking into hull. I had water leaking from cooling system for most of last season, but It has been manageable enough to just turn bilge pump on for a bit to take care of it, but now it has increased greatly. Exhaust problem was a leak from the manifold- had to drill and tap from m-8 to m-10. That seemed to solve the exhaust leak but on the next ski I had an even bigger water leak. So I finally decided to pull the motor and trace the water leak problem. I pulled motor and found a few potential problems that could cause the leaks, and will replace the water lines. Then I turned the drive shaft to the impeller to check it. It turned very smooth but had play in it, probably about 1/4". Is this normal for the mid shaft? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Griggsmars

Sounds like your midshaft bearing is shot, and that would be a water leak.

You may be able to rebuild, sometimes the housing is shot, and then you need to replace the whole assembly.

Both, new and used assemblies here, bearing kits, etc if you need.

Shaft is pressed in, and needs to be pressed out from the rear. Remove seals, then bearing retainer clips, and then press out the bearing.

EDIT - Please know there is a "spec" the shaft has for depth. Going by memory a SJ is about 20mm. Consult a shop manual for proper install / assembly.
