I see there is a post right before mine about riva red pipe and the bracket in installation of ADA head. I am doing the same install and my question is: I 'ver read it's easier to pull the motor to install riva red pipe. I am a newbie in the engine removal area. The shop reinstall the pipe the last time. It looks like it just a matter of four bolts at the bottom of the hull? Do you have to take off carbs or intake manifold too? Is there anything I should know when I reinstall motor? I read about there possibly being some shims to replace. Anything else.

It is much easier to uninstall/reinstall exhaust with the engine out (may not even be possible with it installed). You will need to unhook your fuel lines, exhaust tubing, throttle (and choke) cable, remove your electrical box from its mounts and set it on top of the engine then remove the four screws that hold the motor to the mounts and lift it out. The connectors going from inside your flywheel cover to the electrical box are inside the box, its easier to just take the ebox out with the engine that taking it apart to unhook these.
There will be (or at least should be) some shims between the engine plates and the engine mounts, the amount and thickness vary on each hull. To make it simple I loosen all four engine mount bolts half way, go to one corner, lift the motor up a bit and remove all shims on that corner, tape them together and set them in the hull next to that mount (or mark them with a marker if easier), repeat for all corners and reverse the steps when re-installing. That is all assuming your engine was properly shimmed to start with.

I'll try in first in the ski and go from there. I remember getting the pipe off once when I installed water injection, but I just had local jetski shop put back on to make sure it was done right. That's back when I wasn't wrenching as much as I would be willing to do now. Now that I got my hands wet (so to speak) LOL . I have a car mechanic buddy that's going to help me install the head.
Be careful with that.
Just pull the motor, the bottom manifold bolts are nearly impossible to tighten without taking the starter out. Let us know how the head install works out I'm doing the same thing soon. I had to take the carbs off to get the motor out with the pipe on.

I am hoping to not have to remove the manifold. It's the chamber that might need removal to get at the pipe bracket. I looked at it briefly last night. I was able to get my finger to the two bolts on the pipe chamber side of the bracket. I was too lazy to pull out the sockets to see if I can reach it with a socket and still be able to turn it. I remember reading one post where the guy just put the engine on it's side in the hull to install the pipe. I got the parts last night. I just gotta clear the tool bench to make room in case I pull the motor. I'll post the process and some pics for those interested.
After removing water box and flame arrestors, I unbolted the motor from the ski last night. Actually pretty easy to do. I did mark each area with shims and taped them to a box for reinstall. I was able to get at the bracket bolt(one was missing) (great) on the side. I took off the other bolts and wiggled the bracket. It won't come out. Next step is to take chamber off the riva red pipe. I didn't find the need to remove engine from the ski. I just turned it on it side. So far so good. Not sure if I'll have to take it out for the other stuff.
Here's a picture of the bracket and bolts With pipe still on. (one missing in my case.) I just got the new bolt and exhaust gasket in. I'll take picture of bracket mods necessary for install since alot of people seem to be doing the install. We plan to be conservative in grinding so that we can maintain strength and keep bracket from breaking as I've read when people have cut the bracket into a "L" shape. We'll see in my case how much needs to be done. Gotta grind what you gotta grind.

pulled the motor.. I have exhaust leak at the pipe connection to the manifold . That would explain the water in the boat. LOL. Started grinding the bracket. Got one side done. My mechanic buddy is bringing the bracket to the shop to carve out the other section. We are trying to be very conservative with grinding to maintain strength. I post picture when done. I'm sure the exhaust leak was costing a few ponies. Good to see cylinders have no scoring. Yeah..
Not sure if I'm supposed to do anything about the buildup on the pistons. But planning on cleaning the screw holes and old gasket material on case before install. I thought we weren't supposed to use sealer on that gasket. or is that for the manifole gasket? Newbie alert.... LOL
