Blaster Pump Alignment question

Location
Orlando
I had to have my pump rebuilt because the bearings were shot. I was told I would have to realign the pump all over again. I removed the midshaft housing and installed the pump. When I measure the gap on each side I have 6-7mm on the left and 9-10mm on the right.

How do I properly align this? I understand I can shim for up and down, but I am not sure how to make adjustments for left and right.

Here are some pics of the alignment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no doctor but I tried to go off hat people have told me. Mount the pump somewhat snug with the 2 bolts closest to the pump shoe, move left and right as you need to by hand, up and down with shims, then tighten everything up and double check it in the firewall hole again.

Hope it helps.

I've tried that and I don't seem to have much play at all. The forward pump mount on the right has a pin that helps seat it properly. Once the pin is in, I don't have any play to move side to side.
Is a few mm difference enough to ruin everything?

How does the midshaft line up with the midshaft mounting holes with it where it is?

Perfectly fine. I can easily move the shaft side to side several millimeters without much resistance. It is just slightly off center when it is bolted in. I can easily mount the midshaft housing with it the way it is. the driveshaft just isn't perfectly centered in the opening in the hull. there is a smidge of wear on the driveshaft splines, but this could have been from anything. It is the original shaft.

It's not about how easy it is to move into position. It's about it lining up without having to move it. If it doesn't line up then you have to do whatever it takes to get there. If you don't your driveshaft and midshaft won't last very long.

Agreed. I would remove that pin, then snug it all up. I used a piece of two by or a large pry bar to get it lined up. If your by yourself, you can hold it over a little with the prybar, then tighten up the bolts, then see how you did. I was lucky enough to have someone help me line it up last time.

Ill try the prybar technique tomorrow. I'd prefer it to be perfect to avoid tearing up the driveshaft and midshaft.

Thanks for all of the help.
