Pump alignment

Recently purchased a 148 MAXX mag pump off of here and I'm having trouble aligning it in my hurricane C2. I've seen all of the threads that say to worry about the pump alignment in the channel first by adjusting the back two bolts of the pump with shims to get it centered up and down. That's all fine and dandy but what I'm struggling with is the side to side. It's not even close to being centered from side to side. It's rubbing the left side of the driveshaft channel when I rotate it. Has anyone else had this trouble? Did you have to slot the bolt holes on the pump to allow for more adjustment? Thanks guys!

Yes you can slot the holes you can also use shims in the front bolts as needed

It's not the up and down portion of the alignment that's getting me though. It's the left to right part. I don't think the tool will help me with that. I guess I should open the holes up to a slightly larger diameter and slot them a little too so I can get the left to right correct. I mean it's not even close when I snug the bolts up.

you are right!
open the holes and/or slot them, the tool will not help if there is no space to move. It will only help u when u have enough space in holes to tighten the pump in the right position.

Is your pump shoe glued in with plexus, 5200 or something similar if you don't want to slot the pump remove the shoe and realign it

What do you guys think? Sorry for the picture quality. It's kind of hard to take a picture haha. I think it looks pretty dang close

Pressing in the midshaft tomorrow and then checking to see if the midshaft housing needs shimming and then it's going back together! Thanks for all the replies guys. Happy shredding

I would get the CF alignment tool AND enlarge those holes which is not an easy task as the stainless Maxx pump is hard. Wish i would have used CF tool when i built my Freak with a Maxx pump but it was not available yet. The splines on my JM extended driveshaft are pretty worn out after a season of running out of alignment but maybe yours is centered better than mine was. I have the bottom bolt of my midshaft shimmed using the tool which is hard to eyeball its pretty accurate.

I want to get the tool too but it's on backorder from cold fusion. I told JM to keep me in the loop on availability.

Guys, It is not all about it being centered. What if the pump tunnel is what is out? Also you have to consider your engine as well. It is not just 1 thing that comes into play. You have pump, Midshaft Housing and Motor that all have to be in correct alignment. And they have to all be aligned with the center axis of the hull.
Its a Bitch. My Freak Build was a nightmare with the pump alignment. Get the CF Tool.

Thanks for the offer dude. I think I'm just going to order the tool from blowsion. Seems as if they have it available. Chances are I'll be taking it all back out again sooner than later anyways so I can redo it at that point.
