Pump cone install

All I've read is how this is easy and a 10 min job. It's really giving me issues.

I don't want to drop the pump so I've been attempting to go through reduction nozzle.
This had been unsuccessful as jm here now. And I got a lengthwise tear in the o-ring seal from a pinch.

I've tried banging w/ PVC pipe against it. Also tried using the screws to slowly and guess not evenly press it in.

Any tips ? And can I still use the seal ?

Reduction nozzle is off. This should be a breeze now. getting a new o-ring tomorrow.

What is the best way to pop this cone in???

Change mine on the shore half way in water. A pain yes but done in 15 min. 1. Too much grease in cone could be a problem. Just a suggestion but maybe get an Allen head bolt to replace existing bolts. Use Allen driver with extension. Put some grease in Allen bolt socket to hold bolt on driver until it threads in.

The problem I think is w/ the ATP stubby cone. The stock cone slides back on easily. Either a softer rubber or slightly thinner O-ring thickness will let me use the ATP

Not happening w/ the new o-ring which is a slightly harder rubber I was told. I can get softer but a slightly lesser ID.

Should have just left it be.

As per ATP, Yamaha changed the size of o-ring 2012. Dunno if all stubby cones are like this but as far as ATP cones go they're only plug and play pre-2012 sj. After that let them know u need different o-ring
