Pump suction tube...cap it, remove it, or leave it?

My boat uses an electric bilge pump and I don't have any provision for a suction bilge drain, but my new pump has a suction tube installed. Should I cap it, remove it, or just leave it as-is? The part I'm talking about is the silver tube coming off the side of the reduction nozzle housing shown in this pic:

I caped mine and removed the portion that protrudes into the nozzle. Some leave them as is, others remove and weld shut.... Doesn't really matter just personal preference

I heated the SS tube up and pulled it out. Then I ground the aluminum boss down and Tig welded it up and smoothed it out.
