Whats the purpose of the large rubber dampener on the bottom of the 2008+ SJ engines? Is that Yamahas answer to the Kenny keeper? Would it work on/help a pre 08 SJ?

It has been discussed before. I don't remember what the conclusion was. It seems like it would dampen the noise or vibration a bit. It wouldn't have any effect as a "Kenny Keeper" as it just touches the interior of the hull and does not keep the motor from moving forward.

ive tried cutting down the couch dampeners so they fit in SJ's but i wasnt able to notice anything. i thought about trying to tether it to another part of the hull in multiple directions acting as a keeper with some play to it but gave up the idea

That makes sense Kevbo on a big sitdown hull where there is more area and more easily prone to flexing... but i wonder why the new SJ's have them? Obviously there must be more room under there than 96-07's, so why do it now?
Just because they can?
Maybe the new bottom deck design is more prone to breaking there now?
I didnt even know the new SJ's had that.

It cuts the bending force between the mounts in half in hard water landings and takes out even more on a log jump. Since the new SJ was made for racing I bet that is what they had in mind.
