The fogging oil may have fouled the plugs.
The choke/carb cleaner may have cleaned the plugs.

Well I put my ski together after reinforcement, and the engine would turn over, but not fire off. I pulled the plugs and looked to me that they were flooded. Checked for spark and I had good spark. Cleaned the plugs and tried again, nada. This went on a few more times, and even changing to new plugs. Im thinking this mofo has to fire off, good compression, ignition and fuel = a running motor (timing is good) JSS stator and coil so Im thinking im good to go.

Once more cleaned the plugs but this time I sprayed some carb and choke cleaner in the plug holes and BAMN!! Fired right up.

Now im thinking WTF?? Fuel is about 4 months old.

What is/was the problem? Anyone had this happen to them?
I guess I will remove the fuel and blend in some fresh fuel with the old, there was only about 2 gallons or less of the old fuel.

The fogging oil may have fouled the plugs.
The choke/carb cleaner may have cleaned the plugs.

Matt, reread #1 post, see above.

Not sure how a new plug would foul out without being ran.

Even when I would pull the plugs out after being cranked over, the plugs would fire nice and blue.

if there was enough residual fogging oil, it may have contaminated the system causing your fuel charge not to ignite. I am just thinking out loud. May have coated the plugs enough to choke the spark.

Yes that might of been the problem. I did think of that when I kept pulling out wet plugs, and installing new ones.

Would stuck reed's be a stupid thought!? I'm not saying all of them but it is a possibility just sayin!

I defused the reeds and they are fine. NO I didnt contract it out.

i had an empty tank but wanted to make sure my ski would fire before i loaded it on the trailer yesterday.

i used a can of fogging oil to get it to fire. it will start right up with fogged out plugs no problem, even when using more fogging oil to get it to fire.

Umm I wasn't being sarcastic I was thinking it was starving for air and thinking outside the box that's all.

do you have you fuel lines hoked up right?

yep, New fuel lines. I can see fuel in the lines. Pump is working because I can see fuel pulsing in the lines.
Once I get it started it runs well.

I just think it is bad fuel. Im going to remove the fuel tomorrow and put some fresh fuel in it and try.

Yea I know, but I was.
Im pretty sure the reeds are fine. Not 100% sure without yanking the intake but if this keeps up after I put new fuel in it, thats the first thing I will check.

Are the plugs wet with gas or fogging oil?
Did you open & clean out the carbs, pump & n/s side?
I'd suggest to siphon out the old gas and replace it.
I use small capfulls of fresh gas/oil in the sparkplug hole to 'test' start it instead of ether w/ no oil.

:Insert contracting joke:

Just a thought: (speaking from past experience) Try pulling your carb apart and check the JETS to make sure they aren't plugged. They get gummed up pretty easy. Especially if they've been sitting for a while. Also, check the filters inside.
Is your pulse line good? If there is a leak, it wont pull fuel but if you are getting fuel to the carb, then your problem may be with the fuel passing through the carb. Clean the carbs with a can of carb cleaner and/or WD40, and with new fuel you should be good to go.

and if ALL of that is good... then have you thought about the start/stop switch being faulty? You can unplug the stop part and see if the ski runs. I had a ski that had a bad switch ad wouldn't start so we unhooked the stop wires and it fired right up.

Hope this helps.

What's the deal are you up and running ?

Been running. It only took me about 10 mins to get it running.
Along with everyone on this board not reading my first post.

The ski starts and runs fine. My question was why did choke cleaner get it running when the primer (pumping fuel in the carb) wouldnt.

Truck is loaded ready to head out to Daytona tomorrow.
Working on helmet cam now.

THanks Craigar.

id imagine its because you were priming it with old shiatty fuel.
