Putting your ski in the bed of your truck

With using carpet, is it a bear to push or lift it off?

I would think that after it gets wet and then dries in the hot sun, that the ski would kinda stick to it.

Are you using carpet?

Why would you think so? Carpet has been used on the trailer banks, floating docks and truck beds forever.

I've always used carpet too. Same deal as you, I have a ranger with a spray in bed liner. Works great

I used a couple of pressure treated 4x4's across my bed with some 2x4's as bunks. There should be a couple indents in your box sides to allow for 2x4's to sit in to make a shelf about halfway up your box. Cost me $40 to build including 90deg brackets, stainless screws and pressure treated lumber.

It raise the height of your ski slightly but it adds to what else you can haul wit your ski. I have a TBM beach cart that folds up and slides under the rack.

I have a bed liner and i used to load my ski into the back of my ranger all the time. Here is what I always wanted to do:

Buy a piece of 3/4" plywood. Cut places out on the sides so it will clear the wheel wells. Then fasten some 2x4's stood up on their edges. Instant truck bed hauler system.

I would pin or fasten the plywood with tiedowns to the tront of the truck bed somehow.

I always just used a ratchet tie down through the rear bow eye hole. That was plenty to hold the ski in there. Yes it did rock some but otherwise all was good.

As mentioned before, don't get the wild idea to ride the ski into the back of the truck. I tried once and my JD intake grate I sharpened up with a file cut a sliver out of my tail gate bed liner. You could also dent your tail gate or smash out your rear window. I have a friend who busted out his rear window with a 4-wheeler.

Do not unstrap the ski until it is at the water's edge. It would be terrible to have your ski slid out of the back of teh truck onto the ramp!

if it's only temporary, don't sweat it bro... as long as you use good ratcheting straps to hold it in place it will not slide or rock around at all.

I used to drive from Mobile, AL to Buffalo, NY every summer with my ski in the bed without any trouble at all...

i actually have no problem. how big is your bed. My bed is 6.5 and the ski fits in perfect on a angle so i can just close the tailgate and it does not move anywhere. Also i have had it in straight and it never moved. Granted i do have a rubber bed mat, maybe that helps

i just built alittle platform type thing in the bed of my s10. It worked pretty well for a while but then i had to rebuild it with some 2X4's and it worked real well. Then i just got a trailor...

Awesome guys, thanks for all the replies. :)

I went to WalMart last night and they didn't have any pool noodles. Maybe they're not in season yet.

There are a lot of great ideas on here. I'm thinking over next Winter, I want to build some kind of removeable contraption for the back of my truck that allows me to load, unload and launch my ski from the back of my truck.

Trailor sounds like a good thing...especially with no bars in those back windows (that simply doesn't look safe to me from any angle really, no disrespect meant).

I just made a new setup like the one above. but wood and pvc and pivots so you can close the tail gate...

Because crazy jersey drivers. I dont want to get rear ended with M precious.. LOL

Ill post pics later.:439:

How much weight are those things supposed to handle? It's just a single tube mounting it to the truck, right?

2" x 1/2" steel tube can handle several thousand pounds and the receiver is rated for 600lbs. I have never heard of one breaking and people actually use the cheap ones from Harbor Freight all the time (I do not recommend that).
