i know that the reeds are bigger on 61x cases, thus forth allowing a larger charge, but are the power gains noticable? this is on wifey's freestyle ported 61x cylinder, b-piped, 180 psi engine, msd enhancer, single 44mm (soon to be 48mm..... maybe) on a stock manifold and vforce reeds.

tankya in advance!

I asked the EXACT same question on pwcyesterday a while back, Ill try and find the thread to reference.

the consensus was that it was a noticeable improvement.

Here ya go.........

I am going from a 6m6 to a 701 in my ski and thought that the 6m6 and 61x had the same everything but different cylinders. I currently have all 3 sets of reed cages at my disposal so i thought I would document the size differences of the reed cages between the different motors. For the record the 6m6 cages and manifold will not bolt up to the 61x cases. They look the same but are completely different, the pics should illustrate why.

The first pic is of a 6m6 cage on to and me holding a 61x cage.
Second pic is a 62t cage on top and 61x on bottom
Third pic is 6m6 on bottom, 61x in middle and 62t on top

Hope these pics help everyone planning a motor swap visualize the size difference with different motors and the potential limitations the motor will have on the intake side.

yamaha is a very conserative companyif they change them to get more power you can be sure there is a good gain or the engine needs it
