Custom/Hybrid Q8 pump setups

Looks like I'm picking up a Q8 in a few weeks and was wondering if a yamaha pump will bolt in. I thought I read somewhere that a yamaha pump will fit without too much modification, is that the case?

It does not bolt straight in. The hull is set up for a Kawi pump.
Buddy and board member Whitca runs a 144 Yamaha mag in his Q8, but he bought it set up that way from someone. From what I can tell, it's some billet pieces in the back to move the pump mounting holes and also a setup to run the Yamaha midshaft.

To answer the OP, yes you can make the yami driveline work, I can send you some pics if you send me your email. Keith @ 615 told me tricky made the conversion plates that are in my q8. My hull has a JD pump shoe that when installed sits about 3" further back from where the Kawi shoe would have. There are aluminum tabs that bolt into the two rear pump inserts that are drilled further back to line up with the ears on the yami reduction nozzle. On the bulkhead, there is two 1/2" or so aluminum plates, one that's drilled for the 4 bolt sxr bearing carrier and the other that bolts to that plate that is tapped for the 3 bolt yami midshaft. This requires the use of a blaster II driveshaft. On my setup I'm running a 144 skat mag with thrust trim and a protec steering nozzle. The steering cable still runs down the left like a Kawi so the steering nozzle was flipped and a groove cut in the bell of the nozzle to clear the arm on the trim ring.

So what midshaft housing do you use with this setup then? Also no hack is needed of the sj pump?

It's a rn housing. No hack needed, only mod to the pump is drilling out the holes in the front mounting tabs on the pump (stator section) and installing a wbII driveshaft.

I got this from tricky:
use a jd yamaha pump shoe. modify the ears on the front of the pump to match the bolt holes on the hull. make adapters for the reduction nozzle to bolt to hull. make adapter for yamaha midshaft to bolt to hull. use yamaha blaster 2 intermed shaft. use thrust trim, and flip protec steering nozzle over. extend steering cable, mod ride plate. your done.

As you can see, this is not a 5 min mod. When done correctly this setup works really well for all the owners of yamaha driveline parts.

I dont mind posting pics if they will help anyone interested.

Tricky, think its a better format for the EME hulls? What shoe is that Yamaha or Kawi

It is a better format for those who already have all the Yamaha parts. The shoe is a JD which fits the hull really well. I am not really interested in making any at the moment, as other builds are occupying all of my time.

depending on the pump. If you are using a non setback pump OEM sj shaft works. Blaster 2 shaft for setback. Blaster 2 intermed shaft works well for the OE yamaha motor location.
