Surfriding Q8 vs. brawler hull?

I am looking to get an am hull to build up but I'm between the q8 and the brawler. I ride an equal amount of surf and river/lakes, so looking for a nice hull that will do good in both. Any insite into the hulls would be appreciated.

X3. Daytona is your best bet so you aren't relying on someone else's advice

You need to give more explanation of what you expect from a hull and what type of riding you do, what drivetrain you plan to run, your height/weight etc. Otherwise peoples opinions will just be what they like better and will have nothing to do with your needs

Your height and weight will be a big factor for riding a brawler. The q8 is a little bigger and the rides are different. (Hard to explain) I will be at daytona with the red/carbon hull with 155 and tpe 1105. More of a demo of the motor becuase its so much power, I think it will take away from being able to "ride" the hull. There will be a few others there with smaller setups, Im sure you can bum a ride on.

I just picked up a Kawi 1100 motor and electronics, so my plan is to hi thru the 1100 and have a fresh motor to put in my Sxr and use my built 800 Sxr motor and electronics in a lighter aftermarket hull. I want a ski that will handle surf well but also be fun and nimble on flat water.

Also I am not a super experienced stand up rider yet. I got my Sxr going first of the year but had a slammed busy year of work and had no ride time. Most of my ride time in years past has been on hx's.

X2 on riding both first before buying , as for the brawler which i demoed at wf i would say coming from that sxr on your avatar i dont think you would want the brawler (thats just me no offense to rcw i appreciate letting me ride the ski at the wf ) but like everybody say ride it and you decide

Both are great hulls, and as i have said on here a lot lately there are no bad hulls anymore only choices that may not be made perfectly by the riders. I have ridden and like the Q8 a lot. Joshs ski is almost perfect. That being said Brians Brawler is awesome also, perfect in the surf and as Chris has shown at the lake erie freeride easy to string tricks back to back. The question you need to ask yourself is where are you at in your current riding level?? How do you currently ride, rolls, stabs, flips, surf tricks or flat?

Still pretty much a newb to stand ups

Ride for another year, get out to as many freerides as you can. Be polite and friendly to people and ride as many a/m hulls as you possibly can. You would be surprised how many guys will let you try their 20-30k skis. That's the best way to get a feel for whats out there.

I have no experience with a Brawler hull. Though I am a fan of the design of it. I own a q8 with a built sxr motor and I love it. We chase down boats in 3-4 ft chop all the time. Though it jumps great, it beats the crap out of you

I can't say brawler over q8 or vise versa, but the brawler is a very very nice ride. Very stable ride and flickable on flatwater. I'm not sure about surf but I'm positive it's an awesome ride their too. I think carterb has a brawler he rides in surf. You should ride these 2 if possible, but feel the brawler is a solid choice for any rec/lake rider. Someone else should chime in on surf.
