Question on Starter motor replace on a jm781bb

Hey guys,

Tldr what would be torque specs for a bpipe and for the exhaust manifold on a jm781bb. And starter if that is specific

I jumped head first into the standup scene and got myself a factory 06 with a jm781 and a mod bpipe. Got a solid 5 rides out of it and lovein it. However inevitably I am almost certain the starter motor has gone on it, as when I direct connect the solenoid nothing happens except baby welds and sparks hah. Rolled the crank so it's not locked or anything

So I have a new starter on order and need to pull the bpipe mod pipe and exhaust manifold in order to easily get to it without doing it blind.

Taking it apart is a non issue and with enough pictures I'll have it back together but I am unsure of the torque specs for the pipe and manifold

I’d leave the manifold, and pull the whole motor, personally.
Sounds counterintuitive, but is probably the best method. All the threaded areas (unless they’ve been modified with a helicoil or Time-sert) are typically aluminium and don’t tolerate multiple torquing cycles too well. Fasten it all up once and take apart when only absolutely necessary.

You can replace the starter without pulling the exhaust manifold just pull the cooling lines from the manifold and obviously remove the headpipe. Might take 2 hours to replace the starter taking your sweet time. I also recommend adding some rtv where the boring that seals the cases on the starter. Also attach the positive cable on the starter before installing it.

Like Steve said, if you're pulling the pipe off its just a few extra bolts to remove the entire engine. Now is a great time to do that, so you can get a better idea of the condition of the ski and also see if there is anything that might require your attention.
