Custom/Hybrid Questions about BOB type of Hulls

Forgive this question if it is too novice however, I have been looking up a lot of the freestyle hulls and had a couple of questions. I know the BOB hull specifically is lighter and a bit shorter than a SJ. From what I have read it also appears the pump is set back 3 inches which obviously changes the weight distribution significantly.

1) Is is just these few things that gives that hull the ability to backflip with a 701?

2) They seem like that want to stand on their ass all the time, this true?

3) Is there a better hull that gives you some of the same freestyle ability that would allow for a more stable free riding where water conditions range from flat to moderate chop?

Like I said, sorry for the novice questions, just trying to understand the mechanics involved here. Just picked up a new SJ and already looking to start a project a build a new ski as I develop my ride style. Thanks for everyone's patience thus far with all of my questions.

Thanks
L

any flatwater backflip only purpose hull will ride nose high and usually have the footholds and handlepole set farther forward to compensate. the reason mostly is because the hull in the rear is extremly short

what is it your looking for? flatwater, surf or all around?

1) There's a number of characteristics that the BOB has which makes it an easy flipper, such as being much shorter than a super jet, and the bulge on the bottom.

2) Yes and no. It is short, so it'll definitely ride nose high compared to a super jet, but if you're riding around, it isn't very bad. The only time I'm in a tail stand is when I do a 180 and just sit there. But when I'm idling, no tailstands at all, it just rides like a regular ski.

3) The BOB is awesome in both flat and chop. I went riding yesterday in choppy water and was still throwing down all my normal tricks, backflips, 180s, 360s, barrel rolls and more.

The best way to determine what hull would be best for you, is to really just test ride one. When we first made the BOB, I'll be honest, I was very skeptical about how it would ride. I didn't like it at first, because I was going from a REV to a BOB, but after a while, I liked the BOB way more, just because it was SOOOO easy to throw around, and being 3" wider than a super jet, it was very stable as well.

We just finished a complete build on a Kawi-BOB, and that thing is the PERFECT recreational ski in my opinion. It was very fun to ride, all it had was a Stock 800 motor with a wet pipe, and we were still able to roll it no problem. Didn't try any flips because it didn't have trim. But we're going to be shipping it to its owner in a little while, and I'm pretty sure that it's going to Connecticut, if you're close by, try to see if you can get a test ride on it.

a little throttle control and proper weight distribution on a short flatwater hull will make it ride just fine on the lake.im 220 6' so any ski will ride nose high @ idle for me. Learn how to control the boat and it's all good. On the lake. But big west coast surf is a different story....

Not taking away from the BOB but another option in the "backie with a 701" mind set would be the Rickter XFS. I believe its a little more pricey, but its what i'm semi modeling my ski after. Set back pump, nice and short... and theirs is light. Mine's a fatty. :(

I would suggest you ride any aftermarket hull you are considering before you make a purchase. I have ridden several. I actually flew down to FL in Dec. to test ride a Superfreak which I ended up ordering. It was the first one I had ridden that met my expectations and worked with my riding style. Everybody likes something different and you really need to line up some test rides.
