Super Jet R&R racing ported cylinders

So I have a 61x engine that has ported cylinders with the engraving "R&R 3" on the side. I am assuming this means R&R racing did stage 3 porting on it. The only thing is I can't find anything about them and what does come up is R&D racing. Can anybody tell me who these people are and if they did any good work?

R&R racing was just another minor aftermarket jetski junk company back in the day. not sure if its the same as your porting , but they aint around anymore and you probably arent going to find anybody that knows. any knowledgeable jetski guru with a degree wheel could tell you if the port work is any good. if its old, its probably race ported and that means raised ports/timing and bad for freestyle bottom end. fromthe crust on the base bolt, i'll say its old tech.

I remember seeing R & R on the sides of older race skis in the vintage ijsba races on YouTube. I'm guessing it wasn't a very big company but they did awesome work. Idk nice piece of history there

I have only ridden it for about 30 minutes and had a 550 before this so I don't really know bottom end grunt. I am going to be replacing the head soon so I can check out the port work. I was kind of hoping it wasn't race ported, if I wanted a race ski I would have bought a couch, but oh well, I'll find out soon enough.

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

R&R JetTech. I remember them from when I was a kid. They had a Westcoast style pipe available with their own name on it (like Butch's and some others). I don't know much more than that, but maybe it will get you more info...

R & R jet tech just another jetski junk company? Goatcher, Watkins, and some guy named Rick Roy used to be sponsored by them.....

Some of the older guys here will know more about the company, and may even know who ported the motor.

Btw, yeah r&r did great work. My brother gave me set of ported cases done by them, I sent them to zforce to have them checked out and have the engine assembled, Tim said they looked great and the engine performs great with them.

Did you get alot of high end or low end out of it? I am wondering if it is just my hookup on the pump that makes it feel different.

Well I sold the ski before riding it, I sold it to a forum member and a few other members rode it and were very impressed with the engine, I'm not saying it was all b/c of the cases, but they sure didn't hurt its performance like if they were junk or something, the ski has lots of bottom end power. Tim said they had more aggressive porting than he would have done.

Alright thanks. This is helping more and more. I just wanted to see if anybody else knew about this company. I'm curious and every little bit helps. I'm pretty sure they were sent in the mail to get done because the ski is a CT ski, and from what I understand R&R was located in FL.

yea, most MINOR jetski companies farmed out production of most of their parts. thats why westcoast produced R&R, butches, jetco pipes and put their logo on them. back in the day, giving racers your parts and plastering your stickers on their boat, meant selling parts. big names now, were not big names then. any company with one good mechanic that knew porting could race. you need a brain to have a filter.

I remember seeing their logo plastered across the side of Rick Roy's SJ back in the day in the magazines. I liked it.

they made some really products they had a great aftermarket head also for the 701 one of the first that came out, they did there own machine work

I am changing the head to an ADA girdled head so I decided to check out the exhaust ports. Doesn't look like anything was done so I am guessing they modified the intake.

those look mildly ported to me. stock ports arent that smooth. look at the transfers and see if they are cleaned up. R&R sure wasnt winning any races with that port work. i'm not impressed. maybe the #3 that was engraved, was the minutes of time spent on the porting by that major company.

R&R Jettech use to have Different levels of Modifications. You could buy a Package or have work done to a certain level.

Stage I
Stage II
Stage III
Stage IV
Stage V

Most likely that is a Cylinder with Stage III porting. I believe Stage III was the first level of porting. It was mild porting designed to give better performance. Imagine a Limited Ski with mild porting. Stage 1 would be basic bolt on's (Prop, Plate, Grate etc), Stage II would bump the compression etc etc etc. Stage V would be the full Race Setup. PRO Mod level modifications. Total Loss (KV Ignitions back before the MSD came out)

This is just my guess as to what that "3" is for.
