Race Fuel

any motor that runs good at 200 psi will run fine at 185,less a few hp for alot less PITA.From what pete is saying though if the motor still runs good with pump gas and high comp id just leave them in there.chuck seems to say its fine to do as well,be nice to know what the timing is with that high comp running on pump fuel. Pete rides hard if its not let lose yet ya know its a sweet motor

Very true... and Chuckie set up perfect for max Brap with pump gas. Problem is our pump gas is like 20% ethanol.. and sometimes cut with water.. LOL

My whole point of thread was looking for cheap race gas that is decent like when I mix c12 (108) with 92 pump. I get 100 oct. wich is perfect and kills the percentage of ethonal..

This thread turned into a motor building and what I should do with my motor per what the motor builder said...

Should I make the motor builder re do my motor because we have Horrible gas.. NO.

I am making it work... LOL

so back to it..

Who runs what gas and for how cheap... CHIT ! :scared:

I run straight 100LL from the local airport-current price is 2.90 per gallon, of course mixed 40:1 w/Benol!

Id sure as heck never take apart a motor chuck built thats currently runnin well on pump,I was referring to other motors running even higher comp that are near 100% surf riders, this is rare.as it seems most are flaties in that setup.

Is jersey gas really 20% eth? Ours is 10% thought it was a govt standard. We got gas once in St martin that had so much water in it the skis literally wouldnt stay runnin, not sure if that can happen in the states with all the regs we have. We have one station in the farm land area that sells gas with no eth we can fill drums with.In your area Id do what gil mentioned,Av gas is around 100 oct and this is what you say has the perfect brap in your ski and 2.90 a gal is great compared to 8.At least you have the advantage of being able to use pump when you need to,thats the biggie for me

id have to check here to see what it is might try some myself for less than 3 bucks,as the airport is along the way to our ride spot........ if its $4 or more id just run 93 myself, but that still sounds better than 8 to pete I bet

Lucky you Gil, the 100LL around here is $4.20

www.airnav.com

you can type in your zip and see the local 100LL prices 24/7. The airport I use is 10 min from where I work and they have 24/7 pumps and they gave me the gate code so I can buy anytime. Sanders Aviation zip 35501 is where I get mine. From what I have seen, Sanders is the cheapest place in the country.

That's where I get my prices. :bigok:

And it is $4.28

you would think av gas would be soooo highly regulated that we would not see a 1.38 swing in price-thats just plain crazy! I assume 100LL is 100LL no matter where you buy it due to the fact that it is av gas and has to meet certain criteria.?.?.?

You would think so.

I think that site has a min/max option somewhere.
If I remember correctly, the national prices swing quite a bit wider than just $1.38.
Of course, I am on the high end of things. :soapbox:

This is where I believe you're mistaken. I also believe this is why you're having a lot of trouble making this motor work they way you think it should. You say "for alot less PITA". Trying three different carbs with no real success and having a 4th set built does not sound easy to me. If having a low maintenence, easy to tune setup is important to you, perhaps it would be easier and possibly even cheaper to simply buy the good gas and go ride. A mildly built motor that just happens to run MSD TL, race gas, mag pump, and all the other full race stuff might run well with 185 psi and plain old components on pump gas. A motor built from scratch planning to use all the best parts as well as race fuel may never run well on pump gas with low compression and a charging ignition. Porting decisions are frequently made when building serious motors to take advantage of parts and fuel choices that may permanently render that motor dependent on using those parts and fuel for good performance.

Just curious, what kind of compression are you running? Over 180?

If I understand it correctly (and I may not) 100LL produces less power than premium pump gas at lower compressions.

I am at 215psi and have had no deto issues after 160gallons of 100LL thru my engine.(knockin on wood now).

crammit. You may be right to a degree,But you say ive had no success with these diff setups Ive tried,I had the MFI ripping, but I am modding it for higher intakes and waiting on new pop offs they were 10 yrs old and wore out. I had the BJ ripping as well, just didnt empress me much for a stroker setup. The riva was empressive when it did hit the pipe, this was the only one I never could get working a 100% or even 20% really.so I believe the dual 48s are gonna rip.

I wont say your wrong till I know for sure and try it. But I dont believe that port mapping is gonna work for 200 psi comp and TL and fail with 185 psi and a enhancer with a rad flywheel,I expect their to be a small percentage performance lost. I can live with this,if you compare the amount of ride time we ie the junkies have compared to most guys it ridiculous trust me, alot of us burn a shizz ton of fuel and ride a few times a week and every weekend its over 50 deg.I just got back from a surf ride today in 40 deg water.dry suit and hand warmers on my primary ski. This testing is being done on a back up sj,and I rather enjoy finding out for myself rather than playing connect the dots builds. I will also have a total in the 5 mil motor, carb, ign, ported pump, prop, rad Fw billet lw couplers less than 2k. We are not super techy and we dont spend stupid $ on motors. just trying to figure a econ way to make more power than the ported 701 setups Ive run forever now

Pete i think the gas station in point on the island side right before the bridge pumps 100 cam2? might want to check it out
there is a couple closer sunocos, and a couple in TR. I wll check there first. then head up that way.
THank you.

Pete I'm pretty sure Surfer is correct.... I spoke to the owner at Pt Sunoco in October and he said they do have 100 at the pump during the peak season for the locals fueling their classic cars... might wanna check it it out!!
