Rear Engine Coupler Spacer?

On a stock 701 with the stock 6m6 marked rear engine coupler is there spacer that slides on the crank before the coupler goes on?

I'm trying to put my coupler on, but every time I do I get about 1/16 space between the rear edge of the coupler and the flange of the crank. IDK if I am missing something here.

I see part #25 is a seal. I will post up a pic of my coupler in a second, I'm pretty sure there is one on it.

Is there normally a small space between the coupler and the crank? Because the way that parts diagram looks, there is not a washer in between.

i just snapped this. 61x block. looks like the coupler tapers down and goes into the face of the seal. there were no separate spacers that i could feel.

I had this problem last winter when I bought a bad hotrods crank. I found out that where the threads end on the crank, there is a nurled/ recessed area (on oem cranks) that allows the coupler to spin slightly past the crank threads so that the coupler does tighten up on the crank flange. The defective hotrods crank also had way too much rod bearing play...

Thanks guys. I think I might be putting a washer in there even if it does not belong. Having the coupler ride on just the threads is bad news.

just make sure the clearance between the couplers is right you dont want the couplers to hit eachother !!!

Yep, I still have to press my midshaft in, so I will be able to easily account for the difference.

just make sure your spacers doesnt chew up the seal.

You were spot on. The area past the threads is not recessed. What we did was remove the first two threads on the aluminum coupler. Now it bottoms out like it should. I'm stoked
