300/440/550 Rear exhaust on X2

Have you ever noticed those little holes inside the engine compartment where it looks as if the steering and trim cables mount? I took a dremel to my older X2 and removed some of the foam inside of those holes about 1/4" deep. I did the same down under the foot wells inside of the engine compartment. Well I then filled those holes with Permatex Silacone RTV. I would say that the holes were there for the foam to be injected inside of the hull. Do you think ware can ger in this way or did you get water into your hull from cracks and such?

Also do you remmber when MasterBrian was going to chop off the seat on his spare X2 hull and just make one large standing platform?

Water can definately get in there if the foam isn't sealed. If MasterBrian did make that it would be very weak. That seat hump is the structural spine of the rear of the hull. It would break right in the middle for sure if it was ridding in surf. However if it was reinforced in some fashon it might be possile. I kinda like the idea the Vissers have witht he Superjets they ride witht he rea gunwals aken off the SJ hull. They use foot straps instead of footholds and have a huge platform to move around on.

So they graft on the gun wales from an SJ onto his Blaster? That would be sweet! I think Brian was going to try and do that too. I remember him cutting the seat off but the pump cavity goes up inside the hull there. I think he never completed the project. He hasn't been on the boards for a long time, I wonder what happened to him.... besides marriage

No they chop the gunwalls off a Sj to make a big flat deck.

Marriage = Game Over :frown: for most guys.

Some do it right and keep get to keep their toys.

I was looking at your photobucket photos. Who is the chick in the pink tank top?

Not too shabby my friend.

Me, I have been slacking in that department. Got a chick who is steady but... steadily getting on my nerves. Plus I see all of these hot girls at college and I am thinking it is time to roam.... (she isn't as good looking as I think I can do)

I keep thinking I am going to meet this super hot chick who like to ride skis, quads, MX, ect... and she will have a good degree/job and make lots of money and I can just mouch off of her... YEAH RIGHT!

haha I make myself laugh sometimes

I thought this thread was rear exhaust, not rear ends...lol. Now you have me wondering about waterlogged foam, I wasn'nt aware Kawi's had that problem.

Yeah any of the foamed skis get waterlogged. Did you see Skywalkers X Jet after he draged off the lake bottem from sitting there for a few months. It was soaked.

I did see that, get a weight on your hull and I will do the same after I get mine stripped down.

They should make skis with seperatorable hulls! That would make it nice to do such mods to.... easier to work on ect.

At least Luke found that ski! I was afraid it was... GONE!

Tired, cold, hungry, what about broke? If so that pretty much sums me up! lol Oh yeah, stressed out over college too....

I have a pic somewhere of the X2 Jet Ski Mechanic had which had rear exhaust. The hull was all melted from it where it exited.

I though of geting some of those rear steps/hull pieces from Japan. Then just putting a Blowsion exhaust outlet piece onto it.

I am just day dreaming of course because I really don't want to mod my hull. Maybe that spare 95 hull I have... now that is a different story...

What type of pipe would you guys use? Aluminum, fiberglass, or one of those rear bafeled tubes? I thought of the baffeled tube but yhe whole would be huge to make it fit. I think sweetemotions said they are like 3.25" in diameter on their auction.

You gotta find the right one. When we got married my wife had lots of money in savings and I had some debt. And she had a great job which bought my last ski and is paying for my college.:Banane01:

Yeah really, where do you find women like this? As soon as I mention I am getting an Engineering degree I see the dollar $ign$ light up in girls eyes. Too bad engineers really don't make that kind of money :(

is there any downside to changing the side exhaust to a rear exhaust? Why dont more people do this mod?

The biggest downside is that it sinks.

About 15 years ago I had an ex-racing X2 that had pump cavity exhaust done by a previous owner. I never had problems doing a tail stand (proper pump to cavity seal and rideplate to hull seal are all that is needed to cure the aformentioned problem) but I did have problems with it sinking.

The problem was that the pipe went from the nose mounted waterbox through the bulkhead to the relocated X2 through hull fitting that blasted the exhaust right at the pump body. If the engine was not running the outlet was below the waterline and the water would rush into the pipe and enter the waterbox. Left long enough the left side would get heavy and lean into the water which then let water into the expansion chamber. If it really got away from you it could roll all on it's own and start letting water into whichever cylinder was open. I never let it get that far away from me, but there was a few times I was sweating it. The cure would be to go verticle just before the bulkhead, but I don't know if anyone ever put that much effort into it. If you look at some of the custom work done on 550s and 650s here on the forum where they open the gunnels up you see that the factory bends the exhaust tube up to the top of the gunnel then back down again. This is to keep the water from running to the waterbox but is impossible to do on a gunnel-less X2.

Truthfully the 440 above the beltline solution is probably the best if you want to do a lot of on-edge carving and tricks an such. Problem is that the diameter is a bit tight for a 650 (nevermind a 750). Back in the 80s a guy I rode with had a 440 and he replaced the single bend rubber Kawi hose with an automotive radiator hose that was perfect. It basically went down to the belt line, bent up to rest on it a few inches, then bent outward, away from the hull. He cut the hose right where it bent away leaving a "bologna cut" that still pushed the smokey exhaust away from hull.
