Recreational foot holds

Does anyone ride the Recreational foot holds? I have an 08' superjet and im looking to just get a little more width in the tray im not really looking for a full lock in. I rode some kickers on a friends ski and they put alot of pressure on the bridge of my foot when i went to hop. just looking for some experiences people have had with these. Thanks.

Rec foot holds are the easiest way to go, but if you want to save a few bucks and dont mind doing some work, you can just do a "wide tray" on it. Basically you will cut out your own foot hold down the sides of the ski and then glass in over the exposed foam and then turf. I've done it to a couple skis and it works great! It's really not all that hard to do at all. Just be careful on the right side (carb side) of the ski when cutting cuz the exhaust comes up about 1/3 of the way down the side. 550's are the easiest cuz most of them have front exhaust. Here's a few pics so you get the idea. The blue SJ has been cut for the rec holds, but it's the same principle.

I did the full length foot holds at first. They seemed like a really good idea. The problem was that I typically used the same foot positions anyway and I couldn't get my feet locked in enough for my own comfort.

I run the full length footholds. I ride and BR surf stance and BF with both feet back. I like the freedom of different foot placement when I ride. I tried the "regular" footholds before and hated them. My feet very rarely come out of my holds, and only then on BR's, never on a BF. Like anything else you just get used to them.

My next build, I am going to install some regular footholds, and then run a cut out all the way to the front of the tray. I think it should be pretty sweet.

Here is my current setup... it sucks when I have to ride a ski with no footholds or either a regular sized tray SJ now.... haha

nice, this helps... did you guys just cut them out and glass them or did you buy pre-made ones? they look "homemade" and they look awesome. What do you think is better?

My tray is a prototype that #.0 made. I bought them from him, tweaked them a little, and glassed them in. It is a full tray replacement.

i hate my wdk footholds, going to rip them out after season and make a wider tray maybe somehting like 227 or kennys setup, with fronthold, like pancake petes fronthold

I didn’t use pre-made ones, I just cut them out and glassed them, but do it like this; First I made a pattern the size of a cross section of my foot with my riding shoes on. Then add ¼” all around for the thickness of the glass and then another 3/4” to the height for the thickness of a layer of turf on the top and turf and undermat on the bottom. Then I cut a strip of glass into the tray sides (gunnel) to expose the foam and used my pattern to shape the existing stock foam. After you lay glass back on your shaped barhold in the foam and have added undermat and turf your feet should fit in perfectly snug.

nice, thats what i was thinking. i want to round the top edge for the top of my foot. the blowsion recs just have a 90. thanks guys
