Refitting a pump

Can anyone give me a quick fix. Trying to refit the pump on my R/N and it doesn't seem to go all the way in to the engine side. Theres about another 1/2" to go. Is there an easy way to do it or am I just been dumb. :banghead: :banghead:
Getting real mad with it now and about to whack it with the hammer.

What worked for me is get another person and have them rotate the drive shaft from the inside... other person lay under ski and push on pump it will magically pop in. dont hit it with anyting you are bound to ruin a lot of expensive parts

I removed the bearing from the inside and it was done in 10 minutes. Can't believe it was that easy :banghead:
I had been messing about for ages before posting here.
