Registration/Insurance Docs

Hi Everyone,
New to the X, but long time watcher on the forums.

What does everyone do with their registration docs when out on the water? I was thinking about plastic baggies to keep them in my fire extinguisher compartment, but they would fall down in there and would be difficult to retrieve quickly.

I keep mine in a zip lock bag and than under rubber gas tank strap.

Why would getting it quickly matter?

I don't usually carry my paperwork. They already have tags on the outside to inspect.

That's a good point bored&stroked - I guess heading back to shore to address an issue with the authorities would be the best way to handle a situation.

In TX you are required to be in possession of the certificate of number (reg card) if pulled over on the water. I keep mine under my tank strap.

Stop and do as directed… if they want to go to shore, let that be their call.. they get Weird quick if you don’t stop…

Probably not a great idea to take your hood off in the middle of the water to get paperwork.. (I had a water pig ask me to take my life jacket off in the water once so he could check it, and to this day i regret not pretending to drown and swimming under his boat and hiding) But they would probably be happier with you doing it at shore then having to walk to your truck to get it?

Plastic bags don't work too well IMO. I bought a $10 waterproof case made for an iPhone at Target. Hard plastic with an o ring seal, two tight latches and perfect size. It holds the registration, $$ for emergency and boating DL that we are required to carry. It fits under tank straps. I would never take the hood off of a stand up for a cop, either head to shore where you can stand up or head to a dock.

Great ideas - thats a sick setup you have there

Make a photocopy and tape to the inside of the hoodliner laminating everything with tape. That being said I have not yet had them actually ask to see them when I was stopped.
