Remove decals

Whats the best way to remove decals from a new machine?

I wouldn't pull decals from a brand new ski. Warning stickers sure but not decals.

Did this last year on my 96 superjet. This is what I came up with.

Decal removal: I didn't find heat to help at all. I found if you get a piece of the decal started, pull it a parallel to the surface you are removing it from (e.g. don't pull it out away from the hull). Keep it tight up against the hull and pull slowly with a side to side rocking motion.

Adhesive removal: Buy a one gallon jug of Acetone and putty knife with a very sharp edge at Lowes. Use a rag and soak an area of the adhesive the size of a softball holding the Acetone on the adhesive for approximately 1 minute. Quickly push the sharp putty knife across the adhesive which will remove 90% of it (depending how good of putty knife you purchased). Once the majority of the adhesive is removed, then it's just elbow grease and lots of fresh rags and lots of Acetone. In two nights you can have the whole ski done. I would recommend wearing a good pair of rubber gloves with the Acetone (that stuff is nasty).

Can get a wrap for the price of paint with way more design.

In that case the rubber wheels work great as well.

I think that if you race or regularly tear up your body panels a wrap is economical. I am definitely NOT anti digital art, however, to me a wrap lacks something that actual paint brings to the table. If you wan't that bitchin art you need paint.

Thanks, I guess since the hood and body are gelcoat the acetone is the trick. I did not have too much residue after pulling the warning labels. The vinyl was tough and quite flexible. Doubt there would be any saving of anything.

Thats what I thought when I saw that. Pulling them soon. Not ready to paint but I fear the longer they stay on the harder they will get to remove.

I usually heat gun the decal for a while before peeling an edge up, then work it back keeping close to the surface as mentioned, use heat as needed but keep it away from the part of the decal that is being removed. Once you get the decal off go to town with the eraser wheel but keep it spinning slow. Once the adhesive is off spray down with your favorite cleaner and wipe it off with a microfiber towel. No risk of scratches or damage to the original surface if your being patient.

Lighter fluid works great. Pretty sure that's all GOO gone is. They smell identical.
